Cindy Shee'has got to be kidding'han is considering a bid for Congress in 2008!

Remember when Cindy 'anti-war activist, Chavez-is-my-best-bud' Sheehan, considered running for U.S. Senate against Dianne Feinstein, D-CA, last year?

Well, guess what, she's considering running for office, once again, but the U.S. Congress, this time! She told Atlanta Progressive News that
“I’m on the National Board for the Progressive Democrats of America and they’re really trying to talk me into running for a Congressional Seat in 2008. It’s almost getting to the time to make my mind up by now. I do have the name recognition. I still can’t make my mind up on whether it would hurt the movement.”

And yes, Sheehan is still pushing for impeachment of Bush and Cheney. Sigh. At a post Mother's Day Peace rally, scheduled to start in front of Lafayette Park and end with a March to Congress, today, she mentioned that,
“One demand on Monday will be for people to co-sponsor H Res 333 [US Rep. Kucinich’s (D-OH) bill to impeach Vice President Dick Cheney]. They have to know they have popular support from the grassroots. We also need an effective campaign to target [US House Speaker] Pelosi and other Democratic leaders to put impeachment back on the table where it belongs. The grassroots is coming alive and I think it’s very exciting. I wish our politicians would come alive.”

Can you imagine Kucinich as Prez and Sheehan in Congress. God help us all!

Isn't her 15 minutes of fame up by now?

what district would she be running from, still in cali? i had forgot she was going after di fi's seat. it is too bad that race didn't pan out what a fun campaign it would have been to see those two whackos go at aech other.

Yup!

She said she has places in CA and TX, so she doesn't know yet.

I have credible information she is running in Falluja...

She'll probably do about as well as Al Franken running for Senate in Minn. The kook fringe isn't as big or as powerful as they are able to make us think with their influence over the media echo chamber! They lose at the ballot box again and again...

Great blog!

I'd like to think that I have a reasonable idea of the political landscape of the US.

But this makes no sense. She wants to run for a seat in Texas, Bush home state and widely known to be Republican whereas where I live in San Francisco, CA (the impeach Bush flyers are all over the place) is not the place she wants to represent.

This makes me wonder if she really wants the responsibility of public office or is she playing a crafty game here?

I think she just likes the notoriety of her celebrity status. She's a misguide wacko caught up in the lights -- a lot like the Hilton girls. Sad.

When you put a person of certain beliefs in front of only their fans, they get a misread of how popular (or unpopular) they really are. -Kinda like preaching to the choir.

I'm my kids' favorite dad and my mother's favorite son, but I'm not running for mayor.

Miss Sheehan needs to be on display, possibly in a debate against one of the other less-liberal (oxymoron?) candidates that have a solid backing in a soft congressional district, and see how she fares. (Forget a conservative district, -she'd be booed right off the stage.)

Our country has become more "centered-to-right" on most issues and she (Miss Sheehan) is falling off the cliff during a right-hand turn.

Her son died a hero and she should accept that instead of making him her scape-goat into an unreal world.

BCF - Excellent point I overlooked!

SNL can actually have a funny show again (after at least ten years of dreariness).

Bring out the darts and we can hit ol' Patty with our eyes closed.

WEASEL: Too bad they don't ship her off to Falluja or Caracas.

DUMB OX: Yeah.. but the kook fringe was large enough to vote for whatshisname who was governor for a while in MN. The wrestler?
And thanks!

LIZZE: I think she wants more than her 15 minutes of fame.. it's all about ego. It does sound pretty stupid, to run in TX, but then again, consider the source.

PAN: Absolutely. And it is sad.

T: I do feel sorry for her loss, but she has truly made a mockery of his death with her actions. Particularly meeting with the likes of Chavez etc. That turns her from a grieving Mom (understandably) into an anti-American Idiot.

BCF: You do have a point. It could be fun. But would they?

I work with a card carrying member of the Democratic party. She is truly died in the wool. The interesting thing about that group is that on the local level they are pretty tight gnit. If you show up to their events pretty regularly, they are going to ask you to run for an office. This colleage of mine was almost elected to the US congress via Michigan.

And what do they have that is unique in Cindy? Not really a long history of demonstrated leadership. Just a long history of demonstration. If she wins she likely would do more harm than good for her party once she got in.

Interesting.

That must be fun, PAPA J! Do you bother to engage with her?

I can't imagine she'd win a seat, but you never know.
