Islamist Group On Facebook Claims Responsibility For Murder of Bangladeshi Professor

More tolerance from some enlightened Muslims.

A Facebook page, apparently representing an unknown militant group, has claimed the responsibility of killing Rajshahi University professor Shafiul Islam.

The page, Ansar al Islam Bangladesh 2, claimed to have executed the social science professor within hour of his death. Shafiul was hacked to death outside his house in the Chauddapai area of Rajshahi city on Saturday afternoon. He died several hours later while undergoing treatment.

Ansar al Islam Bangladesh 2 posted the announcement at 7:09pm, Saturday. The page was created hours after the killing of Professor Shafiul Islam, claiming responsibility.

Ansar_Al_Islam

"Our Mujahideens have killed an 'atheist' of Rajshahi University who had banned wearing burqa in his department," the status read.

It also warned all the "anti-Islam" people and non-believers of dire consequences.

The photographs of slain professor Shafiul Islam, blogger Rajib Haider and Ashraful Alam are crossed in red ink with one word as caption under each stating, "Finished".

Apart from the three photographs, blogger Ashif Mohiuddin and Rakib Mamun are also seen on the Facebook page, with text suggesting that there has already been an attempt and a second one is coming.
I reported the page for inciting violence, but within a very short time received notification that the page did not violate community standards. The page is in Bengali. Do you think they bothered trying to translate any of the page? No. In spite of the fact that there are a bunch of photos crossed out with red. And this is posted in the about section, in English:

We are the Helpers of Shariah in Bangladesh. We are Mujahideen fi Sabilillah.

Facebook is too concerned with taking down anti-Islam pages.

Joke of the day: Bangladeshi Rapist Claims Deportation Violates His Human Rights

So 47-year-old Mohammed Hasan gets a 16-year-old British girl drunk on vodka, rapes her in his car while she's unconscious, serves 3 years of a six-year jail sentence, and now the U.K. apparently wants to deport him. But Mo says deporting him is a violation of his human rights, because he doesn't want to go. You see he likes his "peaceful life," and his wife refuses to accompany her rapist hubby to Bangladesh. Besides, she wants to raise the kids in England.

The tribunal in Bradford heard Hasan, of Scarborough, North Yorks, raped the girl in his car before dumping her “like a piece of meat” on the pavement. The tribunal judgement was reserved.

Violation of his human rights?

Ha.

Women Should Never Leave The House, According To Bangladeshi Islamist

According to the Bangladeshi Islamist Emir of Hefajat-e-Islam - Allama Shah Ahmad Shafi- if women truly believe in the Quran they should stay at home. raise kids and never venture out, because Allah says so.

He goes on to explain that women are like tamarind- which makes you salivate. In fact, they're worse than tamarind, and since men have absolutely zero control over their lustful urges, women should hide away so as not to tempt men, including old men. Like the old fool himself, I guess.

Women have no need to leave the house, if they need food they should get their sons or husbands to go shopping. I guess if you're single you should starve.

In other words, stay at home, ignorant, barefoot and pregnant, and live like an indentured slave.

And women should only be educated until 4th or 5th grade, so she at least can do bookkeeping for her hubby.

He makes some other woefully ignorant remarks.

Bangladeshi Woman Arrested In Muslim/Hindu "Lesbian" Case

This story out of Bangladesh couldn't be more bizarre. An inter-faith, underage, lesbian same-sex marriage, along with allegations- by the father of the Muslim 22-year-old Sanjida Akter- of  Jinn (evil spirit) possession.  According to her dad, she has eloped before, and he blames a Jinn for turning his daughter into a lesbian at age 9.

Apparently, Sanjida and the 16-year-old Hindu girl met 6 months ago when Sanjida was hired as a tutor. She was fired when the teen's dad noticed they were getting a tad too close:

"I did not like her attitude and told my wife not to allow her at home."
That's when his daughter disappeared.  However, he doesn't buy the homosexual angle, and is convinced his daughter was abducted.

"..[he] claims the relationship is not a homosexual one, but rather a ploy by the older woman to extort money from his family by seducing his daughter.
[snip]
"Suddenly I received a call demanding 300,000 taka ($38,530) as ransom. I informed the police and they finally located the girls."
The girls beg to differ. When they were arrested they told police they loved each other and that they were "married under Hindu traditions."

Sanjida was arrested on kidnapping charges, although she denies it.

"No one will ever lodge any complaint against me. Not even [this girl] as I did not abduct her. She went with me willingly," she told the newspaper before going to jail.

Bangladeshi Protesters Want Blasphemy Laws For Bloggers- Protest In Streets

Muslim-majority Bangladesh is primarily a secular nation that adheres mostly to English laws. It's a parliamentary democracy and a unitary state, but thousands upon thousands of citizens want to change back to a caretaker government (which they had in 2007), and establish blasphemy laws, like their brothers in Pakistan. They want that because there's a bunch of 'atheist bloggers who insulted Islam' they would like punished. So, those thousands upon thousands took to the streets of Dhaka after Friday prayers to make their demands known.

Members of the Islami Andolan Bangladesh are demanding the arrest of 'atheist bloggers who insulted Islam' and to pass laws punishing those who 'insulted Islam in the parliament'. They have announced plans to 'lay siege' to the office of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on April 25 if their demands are not met.
They include the restoration of the phrase 'absolute trust and faith upon Almighty Allah' in basic principles of the constitution; passing laws to punish atheists; holding of national elections under an impartial government; ensuring good governance and justice, uprooting terrorism and corruption; and establishing Islamic rule for a prosperous and welfare state.
The rest on UK DailyMail

The uber-religious in that country have already taken matters into their own hands when they hacked to death in February anti-Islamist blogger Ahmed Rajib Haider. The same people torched a slew of Buddhist temples and destroyed about 15 Buddhist-owned houses over a photo of a desecrated Quran on the Facebook page of a local Buddhist boy, even though he claimed someone else posted it on his timeline. The same stupid people who went on strike in Bangladesh over the "Innocence of Muslims" film and the Charlie Hebdo cartoons, as though their country had anything to do with either.

But if you look at this photo- yes, those are hordes of people- it doesn't bode well for Bangladesh.

Islamists Call For Death To Anti-Islamist Bloggers In Bangladesh

On February 15, a 35-year-old Bangladeshi  blogger, Ahmed Rajib Haider, was hacked to death with a machete for his anti-Islamist activity in the capital city Dhaka.

According to Reporters Without Borders :

Police found Haider’s body near his home in Palashnagar, a residential district of Dhaka, on the evening of 15 February. Ibad Ali, a policeman at the scene, said his body bore the marks of machete wounds.

[snip]  Haider was well known for criticizing Islamic fundamentalism under the blog name of Thaba Baba on Somewhereinblog.net.

He had been covering the street demonstrations being held since 5 February to demand trials and the severest penalties for Islamist leaders guilty of war crimes during Bangladesh’s 1971 war of independence against Pakistan.
Now the uber-conservative Muslims in Bangladesh have taken to the streets, calling for death to all 'atheist' and anti-Islamist bloggers, and as per usual, the protests turned violent. So far four people have been killed in clashes with police, and around 200 have been injured.

The people of Bangladesh can thank the 12 Islamic religious parties of that country for encouraging Muslims attending Friday prayer services in 500,000 or so mosques to get out and protest all those blaspheming bloggers.

In recent weeks Haider and fellow bloggers had launched huge protests demanding a ban on the largest Islamic party Jamaat-e-Islami, and the execution of its leaders for alleged war crimes in the 1971 independence conflict with Pakistan.

Since Haider's death, Bangladeshi social media has been flooded with his alleged blog posts and with those by other bloggers mocking Islam, triggering protests by a number of Islamic groups and clerics.

At Palashbari at least 4,000 Islamists attacked police with home-made bombs and sticks, prompting officers to respond with live fire, district police chief Nahidul Islam told AFP.

A dozen people were injured including five policemen, Islam added.

Protests were raging all over the country, but instead of dealing with the extremist elements in their society, they have warned those critical of Islam to watch their step.

The government has warned of tough steps against those who incite social tension, and urged newspapers and blogs not to publish defamatory writings against the Prophet Mohammed.
It has cracked down on anti-Islam blogs and also given police protection to some bloggers in the wake of Haider's murder.

At least the government is trying to ban Jamaat-e-Islami. Whether they can accomplish that is another story. And they also  shut down a pro-Jamaat website that was allegedly linked to Haider's murder.

Offended Bangladesh Muslims Torch Buddhist Temples Over Quran On Facebook

One Buddhist kid posts a photo of a desecrated Quran on his Facebook page, and Muslims retaliate by going on a rampage and torching from four to forty Buddhist temples (reports differ as to the actual count), and destroying more than 15 houses in the predominately Buddhist section of Cox's Bazar. That's what happened this weekend in Bangladesh. Just chalk it up to another day of Muslim rage.

Uttom Kumar Barua- the boy who allegedly posted the photo, and who no longer has an account- claims that he was tagged in the photo on his Facebook timeline. Still, he and his mum have been detained.

As a result of the violent protests, at least 20 were wounded. But like the Libya attack, it is believed to have been pre-planned rather than a spontaneous reaction to the Facebook photo.

...Bangladesh's home minister, Mohiuddin Khan Alamgir, today said authorities believe the attacks had been planned well in advance.

“We found evidences of gunpowder and petrol in Saturday’s arson of the Buddhist monasteries and houses," he said, according to Bangladesh's Daily Star, denouncing what he called "premeditated and deliberate act of communal violence against a minority.
"

Security forces were launched to the area that is located near the Buddhist-majority Myanmar. To prevent further violence protests have been banned.  The Bangladeshis have been busy, since they were also out in force protesting the "Innocence of Muslim" film, even  going on strike.

It doesn't take much for a backlash, anymore. It's pathetic that those countries do little to nothing to prevent violence and the persecution of minorities. And more often than not, it's encouraged by the leaders of those countries.

Bangladeshis Go On Strike Over Mohammed Film and Cartoons

Just to highlight how ignorant some people are, Bangladeshis went on a nationwide strike Sunday shuttering offices, stores and schools, in protest of the anti-Islam film "Innocence of Muslims" and the cartoons of Mohammed which were published in the French Charlie-Hebdo satirical magazine.

Bangladesh, a mostly Muslim country happens to be secular, but the strike was called by members of opposition including several Islamist parties. They also took advantage to protest the secular governments removal from its 'four pillars of the constitution' the part that calls for "absolute faith in Allah".

The police (10,000 of them) came out in force to ensure there was no trouble in Dhaka, including the diplomatic section of the city, which remained relatively quiet as a result of the strike. There was a little more action on Saturday when hundreds took to the streets setting two police cars on fire and throwing stones in protest of a ban on demonstrations. In response police used tear gas, and some 50 people were hurt. On Friday 10,000 protested the film.

Do they really think we care they went on strike?  Will their strike affect us in the U.S.?  Did the Bangladeshi government have anything at all to do with either the U.S. film or the French cartoons?

Stupid is as stupid does.

Bangladeshi Man Sentenced To 6 Months In Jail For Facebook Status

More from Bangladesh.

I bet Ruhul Khandakar, a Bangladeshi man currently teaching at a university in Australia, never thought a post on Facebook would get him into so much trouble back home, but it did. 6 months in jail for writing:

“Tareq Masud died as a result of government giving licence to unqualified drivers. Many die, why does not Sheikh Hasina die?”

Tareq Masud was a famous Bangladeshi award-winning, indie filmmaker who was killed in August, 2011 in a head-on collision with a bus. Four others died, and his wife was seriously injured.  Sheikh Hasina happens to be the Prime Minister. Oops.

Obviously, the status is gone from his Facebook page, but since he never showed up for court appearances in Bangladesh (kind of hard to do when you're living in Australia) he was sentenced to 6 months for contempt.  They're also trying to get him fired by demanding the university 'take action against him'.

Bangladeshi College Teacher Arrested For Blasphemy Over Banned Taslima Nasrin Book

It doesn't take much to land you in jail in Muslim-majority Bangladesh.

DHAKA, Bangladesh: A news report says the head teacher of a college in southern Bangladesh has been arrested after a book considered blasphemous by some Muslims was found in the school’s library.

The Prothom Alo newspaper said Wednesday that S.M. Yunus Ali was arrested for possessing the novel “Lajja,” or “Shame,” written by exiled writer Taslima Nasrin.

It said Ali, head teacher at the K.C. Technical and Business Management College, denied having the book and said he was the victim of a conspiracy.

Taslima Nasrin (Nasreen) is a Bangladeshi ex-medical doctor, human rights activist, poet and author with a death fatwa on her head. She has been living in exile since shortly after her book "Lajja" ( Shame: A Novel) was banned in 1993 for daring to criticize the 'atrocities' being perpetrated against the Hindu minority. A secular Muslim, now Atheist, she is a fierce advocate for gender equality and secular humanism.

Yunus Ali is lucky he lives in Bangladesh and not neighbouring Pakistan because all he faces in Bangladesh is jail time, if the fundamentalists don't get to him beforehand. In Pakistan he'd get the death penalty because God forbid anyone's feelings should be hurt by the ownership of a banned book in a library.

Bangladeshi Man Chops Off Wife's Fingers For Pursuing A College Education

An educated Muslim woman is often a threat to an ignorant, uneducated religious male in certain Muslim-majority countries. They prefer their women folk to remain at home, barefoot and pregnant. An education is a threat to their dominance, that's why they burn down schools in Pakistan and throw acid in young girl's faces in Afghanistan, hoping to keep them so fearful they abandon their educational goals.

In fact, maiming females is an all too common practice as a retaliatory act for anything from being spurned, to being shamed, to jealousy. Acid is most common, but women have also had body parts cut off as punishment.  Remember the young Afghan woman, Bibi Aisha, who made it to the front page of Time Magazine after her nose and ears were cut off? She had been left to die after shaming her in-laws by running away from her abusive Taliban husband, but miraculously survived.

In the recent case of a 21-year-old Bangladeshi woman, Hawa Akhter Sui, jealousy played a factor in her mutilation. Her husband,  Rafiqul Islam, is the perfect example of the ignorant Muslim chauvinist male. Rafiq works in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), as a migrant worker. Married in 2008- while Rafiq worked in Dubai, Sui stayed with her parents in Bangladesh and, in spite of his objections, continued her studies.  He had threatened her with "severe consequences", but little did she know how severe.

Sui, a second-year college student, said that Rafiq had called her and said that he had some presents for her, and that she should fetch them from his sister and brother-in-law's house. She arrived on December 1 at her sister-in-law's house, Naima Begum, and waited.  3 days later, Islam showed up at the house and told her he had a surprise.  This is what happened:

It was around 8:00am.

Jui's husband Rafiq took her into a room and locked her in.

“He told me that he would like to give me a surprise, and covered my eyes with my scarf. I could sense that he was angry with me, but I dared not protest,” Jui said.

“Then, he asked me why I continued my studies despite his objections.”

“I told him that I would sit for the HSC examination, and then quit studies. But he taped my mouth shut, and asked me to put my right hand on a table.”

“Suddenly, Rafiq said he would put an end to my studies, and then hacked off my hand.”

As Jui started groaning in pain, Rafiq's sister and brother-in-law broke into the room.

Then Sui sat there bleeding for 3 hours:

"Instead of taking me to a hospital, my husband Rafiqul Islam and his sister Naima Begum remained busy mopping up the blood on the floor and the bed. Later, Rafiq went out of the house to dump the detached hand into a dustbin"

“On my repeated requests, they took me to the hospital by an auto-rickshaw at about 11:00am, nearly three hours after the incident. On the way to hospital, they threatened to throw me out of the vehicle, if I told the story to anyone."

Had they taken her to the hospital sooner, there might have been a chance to re-attach the fingers. After initially lying to medical personnel at the 2nd hopsital Sui was taken to, Rafiq finally admitted he had thrown the fingers in a dustbin, but by the time they found 4 of them, it was too late. One still remains missing.

Some of the actual details are a tad sketchy-  how much did the sister and brother-in-law know? How much of the hand was chopped off?  But what we do know is that this controlling animal subjected his wife to agonizing pain and disfigurement for life, because he was jealous of her educating herself.

Sui will continue her studies, once she heals and learns to use her left hand. She wants to become a lawyer.  Rafiq, on the other hand is bucking for life in prison, if Human rights organizations get their wish.
