Saudi Justice- Preacher Gets 8 Years For Raping and Killing 5-Year-Old daughter

So, it looks like Fayhan al-Ghamdi, the sick preacher who raped and brutally tortured his 5-year-old daughter because he thought she was no longer a virgin, didn't exactly walk free, as had previously been reported.  But he's only getting a mere 8 years in jail and 800 lashes for the crimes which eventually led to the death of little Lama. His ex-wife is now getting $270,000 in "blood money", as per Shariah law,  although she had wanted $2.7 million.

The little girls injuries included a broken back and ribs, a broken left arm, a crushed skull, severe bruising and burns, and according to social worker Randa al-Kaleeb working at the hospital, she had been raped "everywhere."

Ghamdi was a TV preacher.

According to Al-Arabiya, in Saudi Arabia where men reign supreme, murder and rape can garner a death sentence all except for fathers and husbands.  Hubbies can kill their wives and dads can kill their kids and only face from 5 to 12 years.  That's it.

Not only did Saudi Islamic TV preacher Fayhan al-Ghamdi torture and rape his 5-year-old daughter Lama, he killed her. And with Sharia law favoring male criminals, he essentially bought his way out of a prison sentence that should have seen him locked him away for life (if not executed) after what he did to his little girl. After spending only a short while in jail he was allowed to pay $50,000 to his ex-wife (Lama's mother) and is now a free man.

You might remember this case from late last year. Lama died after weeks in the hospital.She had been tortured with whips, canes, electric shocks and an iron by her dad during a 2 week visit. At the time the name of the father was not disclosed.

According to "Women to Drive" activists:

They said the father had doubted Lama’s virginity and had her checked up by a medic.

Randa Al Kaleeb, a social worker from the hospital where Lama was admitted, said the girl’s back was broken and that she had been raped “everywhere”, according to the group.

According to the victim’s mother, hospital staff told her that her “child’s rectum had been torn open and the abuser had attempted to burn it closed.

The activists said that the judge had ruled the prosecution could only seek “blood money (compensation for the next of kin under Islamic law) and the time the defendant had served in prison since Lama’s death suffices as punishment.”

Al-Ghamdi had even confessed to his crime. Manal Al Sharif is one of three Saudi activists who have balked at the sentencing, but per Saudi laws men can get away with murdering their children and wives and virtually walk free. They can not be executed for those crimes.

So, al-Ghamdi will be free to rape and murder again.

It's a sick culture that sexualizes children.

Saudi TV Preacher Tortures 5-Year-Old Daughter To Death

UPDATE: 2/3/13  We now know that the preacher was Fayhan al-Ghamdi, and it appears he walked free after paying $50,000 "blood money" to his ex-wife- mother of his child.

As usual, the names of Muslim men who are abusers or have committed crimes in countries like Saudi Arabia are kept secret. Not surprising in a male-dominated society.

5-year-old Lama's father is a "well known" religious satellite TV preacher. He also happens to have viciously tortured his young daughter while she was in his custody for a few weeks per a divorce agreement with his former wife. Lama later died in a Riyadh hospital from her wounds, which included "broken arms, skull fracture and head bruises."

Recently, he took his daughter for two weeks as per “the agreement” but he never returned her back, the mother said, adding that she was “surprised” to receive a call from the public prosecutor in Hotat Bani Tamim, located 160 km south of Riyadh, asking her to go to Shamisi Hospital.

The medical report indicated that Lama was tortured with whips and electric shocks. She was even burned with an Iron, the mother said.

The hospital matron said the man admitted to beating his daughter, but did not explain why.

“I was shocked and i could not believe what happened to Lama when i saw her and i could not believe that is no mercy in people's hearts,” Lama's mother said.

When she asked her former husband at the hospital why he tortured Lama, he replied with a "chuckle only."

Mama and the hospital officials refuse to name him, though it probably wouldn't be hard to figure out who he was if you live in the Kingdom. Protecting a man who murdered his own daughter is outrageous. One has to wonder if he will even be prosecuted.
