"It's Not A Coup!"- What's Really Going On In Venezuela

Socialist loving liberals keep claiming that what is happening in Venezuela is a coup backed by the American government. The dire situation in that country, both economic and political, also caused by United States interference.

Comedian/writer/actress Joanna Hausmann, a Venezuelan/American living in New York puts that fallacy to rest in the video below where she explains what is really going on over there. And it's not the fault of the big bad imperialist United States of America and its unholy goal of oil dominance.

Hausmann says:
"What is happening in Venezuela is NOT a U.S. backed coup"
"This is not a fight between the Venezuelan Right Wing and the Venezuelan Left Wing. This is a fight of the great majority of Venezuelans to democratically get rid of an illegitimate and punitive dictatorship. A dictatorship of countless human rights issues"
"The people of Venezuela are seeking fair democratic elections using the laws written in our constitution."
"Juan Guaido did not just declare himself president out of nowhere, that is not how it works."
She then explains who Juan Guaido is, and how he was elected as an "interim" president until democratic elections can be held. She then delves into why Nicolas Maduro is "illegitimate" and why the elections were considered "illegitimate" by the international community as a whole, including some European socialist countries.

As for Maduro's alleged popularity in Venezuela?

"80 percent of Venezuelans disapprove of Maduro's government.."
"He took the minimum wage from $350.00 a month to $7.00 month."
"Inflation hit 1.7 million percent in 2018."
"According to U.N. projections over 5 million people have left the country causing a refugee crisis of Syrian proportions. That's more than 10 percent of the Venezuelan population."
A while back I was talking to a friend who lives in Colombia who told me about the huge influx of refugees pouring into that country from Venezuela. Hausmann's claims are true.

As for all that money from the Venezuelan oil industry, one of the largest reserves in the world?  Stolen by politicians and others with ties to Maduro and Chavez, which is usually what happens with communist/socialist oligarchies. Those ruling at the top have all the money and privileges, while the 'people' get a pittance.

From a Miami Herald article last year:

A web of former Venezuelan officials and businessmen was charged in Miami Wednesday with operating a massive $1.2 billion international money-laundering racket funded with stolen government money that was invested in South Florida real estate and other assets.

The defendants are accused of embezzling funds from Venezuela’s vast oil income and exploiting its foreign-currency exchange system to amass illegal fortunes in the United States and other countries, according to a federal criminal complaint.

The complaint describes a Venezuelan government culture in which officials, politicians and businessmen connected to President Nicolás Maduro and his predecessor, the late Hugo Chávez, have plundered the national oil company, PDVSA, to enrich themselves while impoverishing the South American country.
But the Socialist loving lefties blame the ills in Venezuela not only on the U.S. but Israel and the Saudis as well.

Ronda on Twitter is convinced that we- along with the Israelis and Saudis- are responsible for the demise of the Venezuelan economy.

The US, Israel, and Saudi purposely manipulated oil prices, to crash the Venezuelan economy! Saudi flooded the market with oil, even taking a lose for Wall Street and Tel Aviv. It has nothing to do with socialism and everything to do with the greed of a few.
Many lefties happen to be anti-Semitic as well, so not surprising they blame Israel.  Ronda also happens to be an anti-Israel, pro-Pali tool.

Sadly, you can't change their minds.

If Joanna can't convince you, what about this from Foreign Policy-  they endorsed Hillary Clinton in 2016.

James Bloodworth has this to say about how "the left keeps getting Venezuela wrong."

Venezuela is engulfed in a government-inflicted economic crisis twice the size of the Great Depression, which has provoked the largest movement of refugees in the recent history of Latin America. Meanwhile, the regime that has presided over this catastrophe is morphing from a nasty autocracy to a potentially full-blown dictatorship.
[snip]
Yet much of the Western socialist left has persisted in ignoring the trajectory of Venezuela in order to sustain a fantasy of “21st-century socialism.” It’s reminiscent of the Western apologists for the Soviet Union that Arthur Koestler once compared to peeping Toms “who watch History’s debauches through a hole in the wall” while not having to experience it themselves.

This willingness to stand by a brutal dictator—albeit passively—belies a deeper sickness on the contemporary left. Since the collapse of the Soviet Union, few on the left have had much real idea as to what a contemporary socialist economic program would—or should—look like in practice.
Although he is also critical of those on the right who he claims are glomming on to the current affairs in Venezuela in order to paint the modern Socialist movement as a failure.  It's definitely worth a read.

Lefty Idiot Of The Day- Professor Smokes and Rants On Airplane About Love Of Chavez

An idiot gringa lefty professor started ranting about U.S. imperialism and her love of Venezuela's dead President Hugo Chavez, her hero, on a recent plane trip back from Nicaragua.  She was arrested upon arrival at Miami airport since she happened to also be smoking on the airplane, which is verboten.

Karen Bettez Halnon teaches sociology at Penn State, and says on a YouTube video:

“The United States has declared war on Venezuela. ” “Venezuela has been declared a national security threat.”

She said she had just woken up after an American Airlines flight from Nicaragua to Miami.

“So you’re aware the police are meeting the aircraft to take you out,” a flight attendant can be heard saying.

Halnon responded, “I already know that so I’m gonna say my piece before I’m arrested.”
Jailed for disorderly conduct, she's back in Pennsylvania, and had this to say about her conduct:

“I was speaking loudly, that’s often interpreted as yelling when a woman speaks loudly,” she said.[snip]
She says she had just returned from a work trip helping single mothers in Nicaragua.
“I felt it was necessary to speak for not only the Venezuelans but the rest of the poor of the world that are constant victims of US military global domination,” she said.

As for her smoking on a plane:

“Yes, that was me and I was actually smoking a cigarette briefly. I took a few puffs out of it and then I put it out and then I joked that the guy next to me made me do it, but that was just a joke,” she said.
“Every other revolutionary smokes. Fidel, Daniel Ortega, Tomas Borge, Che Guevara, etc. And so that’s one of the significance… to identify with a revolutionary spirit.”
Miss Revolutionary maybe needs to move to Venezuela so she can be closer to her dead hero.

Regarding U.S. imperialism:

"Imperialism has to stop. And people have to use their voice. We have to act up. It’s necessary,” she said.
How about taking action against Islamic imperialism, which is a far more probable and worse threat, Miss Revolutionary.

The rest here, including a video of her rant.

What an idiot.  And this is the kind of person teaching our kids.

Tarek Fatah Blames The Left For The Success Of Islamism

Pakistani/Canadian Muslim Tarek Fatah explains why he believes that Western leftists and liberals are partly to blame for the rise and success of Islamism and jihadi terrorism around the world.

As the world struggles to understand and cope with the rise of pan-Islamism and international jihadi terrorism within western countries, one thing is becoming increasingly clear.

The success of the Islamists is partly due to what I believe is a grand betrayal of civil society by the political left in the western democracies.

Instead of leading the fight against the fanatics’ religious obscurantism, they have embraced it.

The refusal of social democrats, liberals and leftists to stand up to Islamofascism in the democracies of Europe, North America, India and South Africa, has also had an unintended consequence.
He believes the "anti-immigrant backlash against all non-whites" is a direct result of the failure of the left to deal with Islamofascism before it became such a huge problem.  He says:

Imagine if Labour in the UK, Democrats in the U.S., the Congress and CPM in India, socialists in France and the left in Canada had not catered to Islamists, but instead drawn a line in the sand on such issues as gender apartheid.

Think how different things would be today.

Instead we’ve had more than a decade of appeasement.
The rest here.

Berkeley Students' Reactions to ISIS Flag and Israeli Flag

Ami Horowitz performs a little experiment at U.C. Berkeley, California.

He waves both the ISIS flag, and the Israeli flag. Not surprising which flag got the negative reaction.

Boston Bombers' Muslim Faith Irrelevant Says MSNBC'S Melissa Harris-Perry

Typical liberal-speak on Melissa Harris-Perry's MSNBC show regarding the Boston bombers.

Harris-Perry and her panel believe that the Muslim faith of the Tsarnaev brothers should have no bearing in the investigation into the Boston Marathon massacre. To do so is merely demonizing the "other", since "there is no evidence suggesting the suspected attackers may have embraced a radicalized version of Islam."  No? I guess she hasn't been keeping abreast of all the information that has been pouring in from the FBI, some family members and others.

Panel member Georgetown University professor Michael Eric Dyson said

“[Americans] fill in the blanks with the stereotypes… we fill in the blanks with what makes us feel most comfortable that this was an exceptional, extraordinary case that happened because they are this.”

Indeed. Imagine had they been conservative, white men who were responsible.  Melissa Harris-Perry would most definitely be singing a different tune.

Kim Jong-Un Gets Honorary Doctorate From International Institute Of Social Scientists

North Korea's Kim Jong-un was just awarded an honorary Doctorate of Socio-Political Science, and a groovy gold medal and cup by the International Institute of Social Scientists in honor of his dead granddaddy Kim Il-Sung's birthday-which is this Monday.  Present at the sombre celebration (although sans the man-child himself) were various DPRK dignitaries:

Kim Yong Nam, president of the Presidium of the DPRK Supreme People's Assembly;  Ri Yong Sik and Ri Yong Chol, vice department directors of the C.C., the Workers' Party of Korea; Ri Hye Jong, director of the Academy of Social Sciences; Kim Jin Bom, vice-chairman of the Korean Committee for Cultural Relations with Foreign Countries; Ji Sung Chol, vice-director of the Academy of Social Sciences, and officials concerned.

And a bunch of foreign tools from India, Latin America and Russia:

Director General of the International Institute of the Juche Idea Dr. Vishwanath and Director General of the Asian Regional Institute of the Juche Idea Dr. Harish Gupta who are directors of the International Institute of Social Scientists; Chairman of the Latin American Institute of the Juche Idea Ramon Jimenez Lopez and Secretary General Eleazar Rubio Aldaran; Chairman of the National Committee for the Study of the Juche Idea of Democratic Congo Lohekele Kalonda Andre; Chairwoman of the Kim Jong Suk Women's Union of Russia Elena Bavichi.

In Vishwanath's speech:

He said Kim Jong Un is devoting himself to building a thriving socialist nation with his extraordinary political ability, distinguished leadership and noble traits true to the idea and intention of Kim Il Sung and leader Kim Jong Il. He added: [snip]   Vishwanath handed over to President Kim Yong Nam the certificate, gold medal, cup and the decision of the council awarded to Kim Jong Un.  Ramon Jimenez Lopez made a congratulatory speech on behalf of the followers of the Juche idea in Latin America, Lohekele Kalonda Andre on behalf of the followers of the Juche idea in Africa and Elena Bavichi on behalf of the followers of the Juche idea in the eastern European region.
Ramon Jimenez Lopez said that Kim Jong Un has vigorously encouraged the world progressive people in their struggle for realizing independence. Lohekele Kalonda Andre said that Kim Jong Un is wisely guiding the work of all fields with his veteran and seasoned leadership. Elena Bavichi expressed belief that the Korean people would foil the U.S. imperialists and their allies' moves for aggression and successfully build a reunified thriving nation under the leadership of Kim Jong Un. Kim Yong Nam noted that the awarding of the title to Kim Jong Un is an expression of progressive mankind's profound reverence for him.
A thriving reunified Korea under the leadership of Kim Jong-un?  Great, I'm sure the South Korean's will be delighted to suffer like their brothers and sisters in the DPRK.

Back to this Doctorate and the International Institute of Social Scientists. Google, and good luck finding any information on the Institute.  In fact, google and good luck finding anything about Kim Jong-un receiving this Doctorate, at least as of today.  There is an Asian Regional Institute of the Juche Idea. Juche is the philosophy behind what makes the DPRK tick- have fun delving into that. But I couldn't find any reference to an International Institute of Social Scientists.  Maybe someone out there will have more patience sifting through google results.

I thought it might be fake, but there was a ceremony (see video below), a certificate that looks Photoshopped:

And a dandy gold cup and medal.  I wonder if it's real gold.

Obama Should "Work Like A Third World Dictator" and Jail Opponents- Says Harry Belafonte

Lefty Harry Belafonte thinks that Barack Obama needs to act like third world dictators and jail opponents. He could have been joking, but given his penchant for left-wing leaders, like his BFF Hugo Chavez, there could well be truth in the comment he made to Al Sharpton on MSNBC.

“What fascinates me is that in the face of millions of Americans expressing their desire, the whole political establishment defining its game, that there should be this lingering infestation of really corrupt people, who’re still trying to dismantle the wishes of the people, the mandate that has been given to Barack Obama, and I don’t know what more they want. The only thing left for Barack Obama to do is to work like a third world dictator and put all these people in jail. They’re violating the American desire!”
Ever heard of the Arab Spring, Harry? They got rid of their dictators, although they foolishly replaced them with something worse. We wouldn't make that mistake.

"Useful Idiots For Palestine" Video by Pat Condell

Proud (and happy) atheist Pat Condell socks it to the leftist tools who support Hamas and Palestine in this video he taped last year. As always, he does not hold back his contempt for the idiots who have no clue what actually is going on over there.

U.S. Hikers Imprisoned In Iran Leftist Tools: Thank Hugo Chavez & Cindy Sheehan For Release

This is an interesting Wall Street Journal interview with James Kirchick, contributing editor at New Republic Magazine, about the two young American hikers (Shane Bauer and Josh Fattal) held as "Political Prisoners" in Iran for 2 years. Kirchick has some interesting notions about the young men based on some of their comments upon their release from prison, including comparing the U.S. with Iran, and thanking the usual lefty icons.
While neglecting to thank either President Obama or Secretary of State Hillary Clinton for helping secure his freedom, Mr. Bauer expressed gratitude toward Hugo Chávez, Sean Penn, Noam Chomsky and Yusuf Islam (formerly Cat Stevens).
Read Kirchick's article here: Wall Street Journal article.

And let's not forget Cindy Sheehan, who along with Muhammad Ali (and others) also got kudos. You can read their full statement here
