Head Of Egyptian Military, el-Sisi, Islamist Sympathizer?

Some troubling background information on General Abdel Fattah el-Sisi- the defence minister who made the statement about ousting Mohammed Morsi- from the Guardian UK.

Sisi, a career soldier, was head of military intelligence and the youngest member of the 19-strong Supreme Council of the Armed Forces. But despite coming from the heart of the security establishment he had a reputation for being sympathetic to the Muslim Brotherhood — the reason, many Egyptians assumed, Morsi chose him for the job. Sisi is said to be a religious man, and his wife, unusually, wears the full niqab (face veil.)

Mohamed Beltagy, a senior Brotherhood figure, has described receiving a "brotherly" warning from the intelligence chief about an impending attack by regime thugs on demonstrators in Tahrir Square in what became known as the "battle of the camel" — one of the brutally defining moments of the revolution that overthrew Hosni Mubarak, in February 2011.

But Sisi also attracted criticism for appearing to defend the behaviour of the armed forces in detaining and beating women protestors who were subjected to strip searches and "virginity tests" and threatened with prostitution charges.
Apparently Sisi also allowed Islamists to attend the "apolitical" military officer's training academy.

Hopefully he will remain neutral.

Mohammed Morsi Has Gone Bye-Bye- Military Coup In Egypt

The Egyptian people managed to do it. Again! Well done.

Egypt's military has ousted the nation's Islamist president, replacing him with the chief justice of the Supreme Constitutional Court, calling for early presidential election and suspending the Islamist-backed constitution.

Army chief Abdel-Fattah el-Sissi, in a televised address to the nation on Wednesday, said a government of technocrats will be appointed to run the country during a transition period he did not specify.

An aide of ousted President Mohammed Morsi, Ayman Ali, said the former leader has been moved to an undisclosed location. He gave no details.

Morsi's Facebook page quoted him on Wednesday as saying he rejected measures announced by the army as a "military coup." It was unclear whether Morsi has access to his own Facebook page or if the statement was posted by an aide.

Cheers erupted among millions of protesters nationwide who were demanding Morsi's ouster. Fireworks lit the Cairo night sky.

Not that there won't be any trouble from the pro-Morsi Islamists. You can bet that there will be.

But lets hope the people choose the right leader next time around.
