Islam Prohibits Stay-At-Home Dads Claims Malaysian Government Research Center

No stay-at-home dads in Malaysia, if certain people have their way, because it says so in the Quran. [Note, Putrajaya is a planned city south of Kuala Lumpur, and the current seat of government. Kuala Lumpur still houses the Parliament and the King.]

Islam prohibits its married men from being the homemaker in the family, the government’s Malaysian Institute of Islamic Understanding (Ikim) has said, amid Putrajaya’s efforts to discourage women from dropping out of the workforce to raise children.

Siti Fatimah Abdul Rahman, consultation and exercise unit leader in Ikim’s centre for economic and social studies, said the Quran mandates the husband, not the wife, to provide for the household, the Sunday edition of local daily New Straits Times reported today

“Although there is no prohibition for wives to work and even if the wife earns 10 times more than the husband, he still has to provide basic sustenance for the family,” Siti Fatimah was quoted saying in the New Sunday Times report.

The official from the government research centre cited the Quranic verse 34 of chapter An-Nisa in her argument that Islam made it imperative for men to be breadwinners and said it was unacceptable for a husband to manage the home while earning nothing.

Putrajaya is aiming to increase Malaysia’s female labour force participation rate to 55 per cent this year from 52.4 per cent in 2013, even as the nation plans to reach developed status in just five years’ time by 2020.

Muslim right-wing group Ikatan Muslimin Malaysia said last month that Malaysia could still be a high-income nation if men remained breadwinners and women focused on raising children.

Gender Equality Leads To More Suicides, Claims Turkey's Prime Minister

"Mechanical [gender] equality" leads to increased suicide. That's what Turkey's Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoğlu (of the conservative AKP Party) believes.

“Why is the Gross National Product in most developed countries – I don’t want to name it but in Scandinavian countries and in many other countries – at the highest level on one side [GDP], but the suicide rate is also at the highest level there. Why?” 

The premier, who was speaking at a meeting hosted by the women’s branch of his ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP), described “mechanical equality” as something that it is beginning to “destroy the complementary relationship in life.”

“That’s why, since our women are fulfilling that divine mission of keeping humanity alive, then they have the right to rest before and after becoming a mother and spare time for their children. Granting this is not a favor, it is just paying a debt.”

Yes, keep them barefoot and pregnant.

Of course, he's just parroting what Turkey's President Recep Tayyip Erdogan who has already said women are not equal to men.

Then we have these other enlightened pronouncements:

Turkey's Deputy Prime Minister Bülent Arınç encouraged women not to laugh in public because it's morally corrupt.

And Muslims discovered the Americas.

He does get points for denouncing the rampant violence against women.

UK Muslim Boys' School- Only Men Need Apply For Science Teacher Job

A school for Muslim boys in Leicester, England is in trouble for discrimination with regard to its hiring practices. The school needs a temporary science teacher but they don't want women working there, so they specified men only in an ad placed with a recruiting company called Capita.

The advert published by the outsourcing company Capita requested a “Male Science Teacher” to cover lessons, including some mathematics classes, until the end of the current academic year on a short term contract for up to £150 a day.

The National Secular Society said it had been alerted to the advertisement by a female science teacher who had been looking for work in the Leicester area.

The ad was eventually pulled after the Department of Education got involved stating that

“Schools must comply with equality law. "We asked Leicester City Council to raise this with the school and the advert has now been withdrawn.”

But we all know the school will still only hire a male.

The NSS had this to say:

 “Being male isn't a genuine occupational requirement for a science teacher in a state school. Any attempt to try and make it so is unjustifiable.

“The Government's encouragement of schools run by religious groups will bring with it increasing demands for religious customs and practices to be accommodated within our education system.

“If religious demands to discriminate and segregate along gender lines are accommodated, teachers of the 'wrong sex' will be disadvantaged and children in such schools are unlikely to be adequately prepared for life as equal citizens in a liberal democracy – which should be one of the fundamental aims of education policy. “For some religious groups, it is clear that the primary goal of state education should be to instill parents' religious beliefs in children. “Equality must not be sacrificed in the rush to satisfy their demands.”
