Minneapolis Hate Crime Hotline- Perspective From The Left and Right

Last year Minneapolis, Minnesota- home to many Somali Muslims one of which is newly elected Democratic Rep Ilhan Omar- created a hate-crime/harassment hotline.

"Since the general election, many of us have experienced, witnessed firsthand or heard of actions of: racism, xenophobia, sexism and bigotry directed at people here and in cities across the United States," Minneapolis Department of Civil Rights Director Velma Korbel wrote in a statement posted on the city's website. "In no uncertain terms, hate-motivated speech and actions have no place in Minneapolis nor will they be tolerated."
Not surprisingly, the left and the right have diametrically opposing opinions on what amounts to a snitch hotline for the overly sensitive, accessible through the city's 311 hot line  service. We all know that the only people who become super offended by any criticism of their religion are the Muslims, and it was no doubt created with them in mind, probably spurred on by Council On American Islamic Relations (CAIR).  But the only people who appear to be concerned are those of us who realize that this kind of action will eventually lead to the further erosion of free speech. We are already being censored and censured on social media outlets for even mentioning the word "Shariah". I'm not talking about speech that incites physical violence against anyone, that is an abomination, but criticism is not a hate crime, though it seems to be headed that way if the lefties have their way.

So, if you google, you will find a slew of the usual conservative voices opining about the "Shariah hot line", and then you have the alternative weekly left-leaning rag Minneapolis City Pages calling Shariah Law a "myth", and excoriating those of us who think it's not a myth and potentially the beginning of something dangerous.

Pete Kotz of City Pages wrote in response to Jihad Watch claiming that“This is a helpline for Muslims to report incidents of Islamophobia, including, no doubt, rude remarks that are not criminal, and accurate analysis of the motivating ideology behind jihad terror activity.”:
The hotline, of course, does nothing of the sort. People can still speak freely from the depths of their anal cavity, peddling all the theological nuttery they can slobber. It just can’t rise to the level of a crime. Hence the name “hate crime hotline.” The myth has already been debunked by Snopes and Politifact. But the righteous are not easily deterred by accuracy or cognitive limitations.
It might not now, but no matter how much he mocks those who believe, we don't know for sure what will happen when we lose the ability to freely criticize.

Aussie 60 Minutes Video- Europe's Migrant Crisis, Crew Attacked In Sweden

An eye opening Australian "60 Minutes" segment about the catastrophic European refugee/migrant crisis.

I'm not sure when this aired, but it states that Sweden took in 165,000 refugees the prior year- as a result the country is on the brink of an economic and cultural disaster. There are currently 55 no go zones in Sweden, areas where police are forced to escort ambulances to ensure their safety. Just how unsafe is it?  In one suburb of Stockholm, inhabited by mostly Somali Muslims, some punk ran down the 60 minutes cameraman, then later the crew was attacked by a bunch of masked young African men.

Sweden's humanitarian and welfare state is coming back to bite them in their butts. Big time.

Muslim Woman Slams Minnesota Muslims For Demanding Halal Food At Food Banks

A 25-year-old Atlanta Bosnian Muslim has slammed a Somali refugee organization for demanding food banks supply halal foods, and her Facebook Post has gone viral.

Emina Dedic, a refugee from the Bosnian war some 20 years ago, is incensed that Isuroon, a Somali women's group, is taking advantage of the charity and kindness of a "mostly Christian nation." In fact, she insinuates that what they are demanding and doing is un-Islamic.

Arriving in this country when she was a toddler, Emina's family struggled but her parents worked hard to integrate. They learned English through "Hooked On Phonics"  while both parents got jobs- her mum at a fast food joint, her dad working two jobs to make ends meet. He walked, since they could not afford a car, and no food stamps, although she did avail herself of the reduced-price school lunch programme. Regarding halal:

“When we couldn't afford halal foods, we simply wouldn't buy lamb or would eat what we could with the budget we had,” she told International Business Times.
Apparently, there are 77,000 or so Somali people in Minnesota, the bulk of them refugees, who were resettled by Christian organizations like Catholic Charities and Lutheran Social Services.

The response from Isuroon's executive director- Fartun Weli- to Dedic's "smackdown."

“The ‘viral’ writer is somewhat misinformed in that our community is not asking for additional food stamps from the county, nor are we asking for additional funding/taxes from the state or county,” Weli wrote in an email to IBTimes about Dedic’s Facebook post. She says the Somali community in Minnesota contributes $223 million to the state’s economy. A 2006 study found Somalis in Minnesota account for $164 million in buying power and own 600 businesses. “We aren't asking for handouts,” Weli said. “Most Somalis work hard so we asked some of our tax money to come back to our community so we can take care of our own while we keep continuing to do better.”
If they are doing so well, as Dedic posits, why aren't they taking care of their own? Why can't business owners and mosques supply halal foods to those food banks.

Prior to the viral post, Isuroon led a rally to demand that the county reallocate funds for halal food. That would cost $150,000 to get it going, according to Peter McLaughlin, Hennepin County commissioner. Weli complained that:

“Some food shelves are trying to meet the need, but some of them already got canned beans that have already been mixed with pork -- and there is a literacy issue here.”
Literacy. Hmm.  Why isn't Isuroon worrying more about educating and teaching Somali people English and how to integrate, than bitching about not enough Halal food in local food pantries.

Dedic, of course, is a conservative.
