It is oft quoted that Islam promotes women's rights- it's a fallacy of course, at least in most Muslim-majority countries.   
This interesting video about 'gender apartheid' in Iran proves the extent to which they lack rights.

Saudi Woman Locked In Her Room By Her Father For 18 Years

According to Kabar, a local  daily paper, a 36-year-old Saudi Arabian woman has been locked up in her room for  18 years. 

To punish his daughter, for reasons unknown, her father locked her up when she was a teen, and she's been there ever since.

Police deny any apparent problems, however, the paper quoted neighbors and human rights activists as confirming the woman is still confined to her room in the eastern province of Qatif.

“Neighbors and human rights sources said the girl was apparently subject to family punishment and violence and was locked up in her bedroom when she was a teen ager,” Kabar reported.

“They confirmed the girl is still confined to her room and is not allowed out…the sources urged authorities to immediately intervene and free the girl as she has been deprived of education and all other needs in life.”

“What this father has done is totally unjustified and cruel…perhaps he is suffering from mental problems given the fact that he has not yet realized the consequences of this act against his own daughter all these years,” said Alia Al Fareed, a member of the Saudi Human rights Commission in the eastern area.

No apparent problems?  Just that she happens to be female. This is just how little women are regarded in countries like Saudi Arabia. Lock 'em up like animals.

Afghan Police Rescue 41 Would-Be Child Suicide Bombers

Just last week two 10-year-old would-be child suicide bombers (who had been previously captured and pardoned last year by Afghanistan's President Hamid Karzai) were arrested along with 3 adult insurgents. Today, 41 more were 'rescued' by Afghan police from becoming walking bombs.

This time, some were are young as 6!

KABUL: The Afghan government said Monday that police had rescued 41 children from becoming suicide bombers as they were about to be smuggled across the mountains into Pakistan.

Interior ministry spokesman Sediq Sediqqi told a news conference that the children aged six to 11 had been released on February 15 from the clutches of four insurgents in eastern Kunar province.

He told AFP their families “were fooled by terrorists”, who promised to send them to seminaries in Pakistan where they would be “brainwashed” and “prepared for suicide bombings against Afghan and international troops in Afghanistan”.

Police arrested the four suspects and the children were returned to their families, the spokesman said.

Sadly, there will be more (and probably some of these same kids), because to the Taliban children (and women) are disposable.

Bangladeshi College Teacher Arrested For Blasphemy Over Banned Taslima Nasrin Book

It doesn't take much to land you in jail in Muslim-majority Bangladesh.

DHAKA, Bangladesh: A news report says the head teacher of a college in southern Bangladesh has been arrested after a book considered blasphemous by some Muslims was found in the school’s library.

The Prothom Alo newspaper said Wednesday that S.M. Yunus Ali was arrested for possessing the novel “Lajja,” or “Shame,” written by exiled writer Taslima Nasrin.

It said Ali, head teacher at the K.C. Technical and Business Management College, denied having the book and said he was the victim of a conspiracy.

Taslima Nasrin (Nasreen) is a Bangladeshi ex-medical doctor, human rights activist, poet and author with a death fatwa on her head. She has been living in exile since shortly after her book "Lajja" ( Shame: A Novel) was banned in 1993 for daring to criticize the 'atrocities' being perpetrated against the Hindu minority. A secular Muslim, now Atheist, she is a fierce advocate for gender equality and secular humanism.

Yunus Ali is lucky he lives in Bangladesh and not neighbouring Pakistan because all he faces in Bangladesh is jail time, if the fundamentalists don't get to him beforehand. In Pakistan he'd get the death penalty because God forbid anyone's feelings should be hurt by the ownership of a banned book in a library.

In Islam "Merry Christmas" Is Worse Than Alcohol, Fornication and Killing

According to Brother Abu Mussab Wajdi Akkari, who looks like he's just out of diapers, telling someone "Merry Christmas" is as evil, shirk and kufr as it gets. Yes, those two little words "Merry Christmas" are worse than alcohol, fornication and killing someone. 



There are some who don't take such a bah, humbug attitude towards it, like the first Imam in this video, but the second one, Dr. Zakir Naik, is just as anti-Merry Christmas as the silly young brother in the above video, though not quite so extreme.

Lebanese born Akkari now lives in Saudi Arabia, where I'm sure he feels quite at home with all the other Wahhabi lunatics.
