Pakistani Hardliners Want Nine-Year-Olds To Marry

After attempting to institute a child marriage ban, the Pakistan Muslim League Party has caved to pressure from the religious extremists- who just so happen to be mainstream in that country. The proposed law is now off the table after the Council of Islamic Ideology (CII) cried 'blasphemy' deeming it un-Islamic. And we know what happens to Muslim blasphemers.

Currently a girl can marry at age 16, and a boy 18. They wanted to raise the age to 18 for girls, and mete out harsher punishments for those who married underage young girls. That's now not going to happen.

CII's Mohammad Khan Sheerani said:

“Parliament cannot create legislation that is against the teachings of the Holy Quran or Sunnah.”

In fact, they want marriage laws to comply with Shariah, which means that girls as young as nine should be allowed to marry, if "the signs of puberty are visible”. In other words, they want to legalize pedophilia.

Disgusting.

Way to go Pakistan.

Bill To Ban Child Marriage In Pakistan Shot Down As Anti-Islamic

As proof that Pakistan is living in the dark ages, a proposed bill to ban child marriage in that country was shot down after the Council of Islamic Ideology (CII) called it anti-Islamic.

The ruling party politician who introduced the bill, Marvi Menon of the Pakistan Muslim League party, withdrew it after the Council of Islamic Ideology (CII) dubbed the bill “blasphemous”.

The CII unanimously rejected the proposed Child Marriage Restraint (Amendment) Bill 2014 on "purely religious grounds", reports The Express Tribune.

CII Chairman Mohammad Khan Sheerani said the bill contradicted Islamic teachings.

The proposed legislation recommended giving out harsher punishments to those entering a marriage with a minor, as well as raising the minimum age of marriage for women to 18-years-old.
Legally girls can marry at 16 and men at 18, but the CII believes that's anti-Islamic. According to Islamic law, 9-year-old girls should be allowed to marry.

Of course Ms Menon withdrew the bill after the CII called it  "blasphemous."  She is well aware of what happens to people who try to civilize a society still attached to backward Islamic ideology- people get killed.

Legalized Marital Rape and Child Marriage Part Of Proposed Iraqi Law

It appears we wasted a heck of a lot of precious U.S. blood in Iraq. Not only has the country continued to be a hotbed of sectarian violence after US troop withdrawl, it's now considering passing a barbaric law that will set women back centuries, and rights activists are hopping mad.

The current legal age to get married there is 18. With the okay from your parents you can marry at 15. That will all change if the Jaafari Personal Status Law (named for the sixth Shiite imam Jaafar al-Sadiq) is introduced.  Although it does not specifically mention a minimum age that girls can marry, it does refer to a specific age in the "divorce" section. The age of Mohammed's child bride Aisha- 9.

.. setting rules for divorces of girls who have reached the age of 9 years in the lunar Islamic calendar. It also says that's the age girls reach puberty.
Since the Islamic calendar year is 10 or 11 days shorter than the Gregorian calendar, that would be the equivalent of 8 years and 8 months old.
Other parts of the bill that encourage male-domination:

Men will have all the control when it comes to marriage proposals for their daughters.

Men will have all control over their wives when it comes to sexual relations. Raping wives will be legal.

Women will need permission from their husbands to leave their homes.

Women will have fewer rights when it comes to post-divorce child custody.

Men will have an easier time taking on more wives.

The bill is apparently catering to the majority Shiites who were persecuted under Saddam Hussein's reign of terror, and some believe tied to the upcoming elections.

Baghdad-based analyst Hadi Jalo suggested that election campaigning might be behind the proposal.
''Some influential Shiite politicians have the impression that they should do their best to make any achievement that would end the injustice that had been done against the Shiites in the past,'' Jalo said.
Naturally, Sunni females aren't too happy about the proposal.

.. lawmaker Likaa Wardi believes it violates women's and children's rights and creates divisions in society.

''The Jaffari law will pave the way to the establishments of courts for Shiites only, and this will force others sects to form their own courts. This move will widen the rift among the Iraqi people,'' Wardi said.

Secular Shiites are just as opposed.

Qais Raheem, a Shiite government employee living in eastern Baghdad, said the draft bill contradicts the principles of a modern society.
''The government officials have come up with this backward law instead of combating corruption and terrorism,'' said Raheem who has four children, including two teenage girls.
''This law legalises the rape and we should all reject it.''

Hopefully they will reject it, but who knows.

Child Bride Magazine- Joke of the day

Actually not a joke at all, but you know what I mean.

Child marriage is a sickening practice that happens far too often in mostly Muslim countries, although some Mormon polygamists have a penchant for the young ones too.

Aussie Imam Charged With Marrying 12-Year-Old Girl To 26-Year-Old Man

26-year-old Lebanese Muslim guy moves to Australia in 2013 on a student visa, hooks up with a 12-year-old girl (also Muslim, I assume), and eventually moves to Sydney with the pre-pubescent in tow. In spite of the fact that pre-marital sex is forbidden in Islam, they apparently were doing the deed, and were eventually married by a Pakistan-born imam in early 2014. Since you have to be 18 to get married in Australia, and since Lebanese guy was having sex with a 12-year-old, they're both in a tad bit of trouble. Imam has been charged with "solemnization of a marriage by an unauthorized person." And pedophile hubby is facing "25 counts of sexual intercourse with a child between 10 and 14 years" and is currently sitting in jail awaiting his day in court. The imam received conditional bail and will face the music on April 2nd.

For some reason the parents of the girl have yet to be charged, although they should be.

Pakistani Child Marriage: 9-Year-Old Sold For Thousands

Another Pakistani pedophile paying off a family to marry their 9-year-old daughter, because child marriage is justified in the minds of some Muslims.

Although the pre-teen's uncles tried to delay the Rukhsati (when the groom takes his bride to his parents' house to live after the wedding ceremony), and  police were called to intervene, nothing was done since the 35-year-old groom, Zahid Zardari, is apparently a man of influence and riches, since he allegedly paid Rs1.5 million (about $24,000) and had armed guards at the ceremony.

UPDATE: 8-Year-Old Yemeni Child Bride Bleeds To Death On Wedding Night

9/14/13:  UPDATE:  According to some in Yemen, the 8-year-old girl was never married let alone died.  But who to believe?

While perusing some of my Facebook pages of interest I saw a link to an article about a Yemeni child bride who died after sexual intercourse. It sounded familiar so I assumed it was an old story from several years ago, but no, it's recent, and just another case of a young girl bleeding to death because her reproductive organs were mangled by her much older pedophile husband. The story I remembered was actually 12-year-old Elham Mahdi Shuee who bled to death three days after her wedding night. She had been forced to marry a 20-year-old. This latest case involved 8-year-old Rawan, who was married off to a 40-year-old and bled to death on her wedding night.

Activists are calling for punishment for both the girls parents and the "beastly groom", and an end to child marriage, although that won't come easy. Yemen child rights activists have been desperately trying, for  several years now, to change the marriage laws to adequately reflect the emotional and physical age that a girl might be ready to marry. They believe the age limit should be 18. But they're butting heads with the Islamic extremists who believe a girl should marry at any age, after all their prophet Mohammad married one of his many wives when she was 10 years younger than the proposed age limit.

Yemeni Girl Who Refused Forced Marriage and Uncle Threatened By Islamists

Both the uncle of a Yemeni 11-year-old girl Nada al-Ahdal who said she would kill herself if she was forced to marry a Yemeni man living in Saudi Arabia, and the girl herself, have been threatened by Islamists linked to the Muslim Brotherhood.

The girl had been living with her uncle Abdel Salam al-Ahdal since she was three, but had returned home after her parents insisted she was to move back home.  She she ran away again after she was to be married off again.

The parents apparently have been marrying off their daughters for profit.

Girl, 10, Married Off To 50-Year-Old As Blood Feud Payment

There are some incredibly wretched customs in tribal Pakistan, like the one whereby blood feuds are resolved through 'vani' or forced child marriages, unless the family has enough money to settle the score. Although illegal in Pakistan, it is still a common practice in the conservative, tribal areas of the country.

Here's a true scenario

Even though he was married, Muhammad Akram decided he fancied Munawaran Bibi, so he kidnapped her (another common custom in Pakistan) and then married her.  So now he had two wives.  Pissed off about the abduction Munawaran's 50-year-old brother Falak Sher demanded vani, so the village court ordered Akram's 10-year-old daughter to be handed over to him in marriage.

The FIR filed by the girl’s uncle reveals that Falak Sher had barged into Akram’s house along with seven other men, including a prayer-leader from a local mosque, and performed a forced nuptial ritual in the presence of Akram’s first wife.
It appears the child managed to run away, back to her parents. But according to villagers, the police have been reluctant to do anything about the nine people that the uncle file a complaint against, including Sher, the village 'court' and the prayer leader.

She can thank her stupid dad for her predicament.
