No More Social Security For Nazis- House Votes 420-0 On S.2944

We've been paying social security benefits to Nazis. For decades. The S.2944 "No Social Security For Nazis Act" was only introduced this past November, 2014, and sponsored by Republican Utah Senator Orrin Hatch.

It took 15 years to finally get this passed by Congress (420-0), but that was only after the Associated Press published an investigation  that revealed:

“..dozens of suspected Nazi war criminals and SS guards who collected millions of dollars in Social Security payments after being forced out of the United States.”

Social Security benefits end if someone is deported because they participated in Nazi persecutions, according to the House Ways and Means Committee, which writes tax legislation.

However, the committee said, Nazi suspects could continue to get benefits if the Justice Department found them to be denaturalized, or stripped of their citizenship. They also continue collecting if they voluntarily renounced their citizenship and left the country to avoid formal deportation proceedings.

The AP found at least 38 of 66 suspects “removed from the United States kept their Social Security benefits.”

“The alleged Nazi criminals left the U.S. voluntarily,” Justice spokesman Peter Carr told McClatchy. “And in no case did the Justice Department advocate on any alleged Nazi criminal’s behalf so that the defendant could retain retirement benefits or agree not to seek any legally available means to revoke the benefits.”

Rep. Carolyn Maloney, D-N.Y., who’s been trying to remedy the situation for at least 15 years, hoped the AP report would finally help get people’s attention.

“This is certainly a gross misuse of taxpayer dollars,” she wrote this fall to the Justice Department and the Social Security Administration seeking an investigation.
Only New York Democratic Congresswoman Carolyn Maloney had lobbied to change that law- for a good 15 years- believing it was "a gross misuse of taxpayer dollars."

Ya think.

It wasn't until after the AP report that change was set in motion.

Reps. Jason Chaffetz, R-Utah, and Leonard Lance, R-N.J., joined Maloney to introduce legislation declaring Nazi war criminals ineligible for federal benefits. Similar legislation was introduced in the Senate.
It was way back during Bill Clinton's reign in the 1990s that the issue first came to light, but nothing was done.

Congress tried to get involved, but its effort went nowhere. AP reported the Justice Department was reluctant to support any legislation.

It's unconscionable that we have people in this country in dire need of help, and we've been sending money to Nazi criminals abroad, for years.

Dem Congressman Wants Racist Most Wanted Terrorist Bus Ads Removed

Washington state Democratic Rep Jim McDermott wants the FBI to reconsider plastering on Seattle buses a Joint Terrorism banner ad titled 'Faces of Global Terrorism'  featuring mug shots of international terrorists because he thinks it's racist and offensive to Muslims.

According to McDermott, the “ad featuring sixteen photos of wanted terrorists is not only offensive to Muslims and ethnic minorities, but it encourages racial and religious profiling.”
McDermott continued, “Representing terrorists, however, from only one ethnic or religious group, promotes stereotypes and ignores other forms of extremism. The FBI’s ‘Most Wanted Terrorists List‘ includes individuals of other races and associated with other religions and causes, but their faces are missing from this campaign.”
Someone needs to inform the congressman that Islam is not a race.

Apparently, he took offense because the FBI left off a couple of terrorists who don't happen to be Muslim, and chose to publicize only the Muslims. Of course, the bulk of the 32 most wanted terrorists happen to be Muslim. The two non-Muslims are Joanne Deborah Chesimard, who was part of the Black Liberation Army and serving a life-sentence for murdering a police officer before she escaped, and Daniel Andreas San Diego, involved with animal rights extremist groups and wanted for several bombings.

I suppose next we'll have others demanding the FBI remove 'most wanted' mug shots because they offend the families of the criminals, or offend other ethnic or religious groups.

Hijabs For Muslim Inmates In King County Washington Jails

There should be no concessions made for people who commit crimes that land them in jail, but it's happening ever more frequently with jails succumbing to demands for kosher and halal meals. Now a jail in King County in Washington state is providing hijabs and yarmulkes to inmates because enough people balked. They are also being allowed to wear head coverings in courthouses in the county. If they are that religious why are they in jail in the first place?

It's not often a Muslim woman ends up in jail, say King County officials. But, a few years ago, a woman was forced to remove her headscarf – or Hijab -- during her one-night stay in jail. She described it as humiliating, similar to being forced to take off her clothes.

“This is a larger issue of how is our jail balancing peoples’ right to express their religion ... even in a correctional environment,” says Jennifer Gist of the Council on American-Islamic Relations, an advocacy group for Muslims.

Jews and Sikhs have come to King County jails requesting they keep their headwear too. While the county jail and court staffs were open to accommodating religious beliefs, they did have some problems to solve.

“A turban, obviously, is a long piece of cloth, it’s typically six to eight feet long. An individual can use that to hurt themselves, or they could also use that to conceal things,” says Commander William Hayes of the county jail in Kent.

Under a new policy that took effect in January, King County inmates are now given generic, department-issued hijab or other head cover, along with their red jumpsuit, says Hayes. The policy also allows spot-checks inside the head coverings, at any time, provided the check is performed by a guard of the same sex as the prisoner.
As you can well imagine, CAIR was instrumental in getting King County officials to cave.  If they want to express their religion, then stay out of jail.
