Bangladeshi Woman Arrested In Muslim/Hindu "Lesbian" Case

This story out of Bangladesh couldn't be more bizarre. An inter-faith, underage, lesbian same-sex marriage, along with allegations- by the father of the Muslim 22-year-old Sanjida Akter- of  Jinn (evil spirit) possession.  According to her dad, she has eloped before, and he blames a Jinn for turning his daughter into a lesbian at age 9.

Apparently, Sanjida and the 16-year-old Hindu girl met 6 months ago when Sanjida was hired as a tutor. She was fired when the teen's dad noticed they were getting a tad too close:

"I did not like her attitude and told my wife not to allow her at home."
That's when his daughter disappeared.  However, he doesn't buy the homosexual angle, and is convinced his daughter was abducted.

"..[he] claims the relationship is not a homosexual one, but rather a ploy by the older woman to extort money from his family by seducing his daughter.
[snip]
"Suddenly I received a call demanding 300,000 taka ($38,530) as ransom. I informed the police and they finally located the girls."
The girls beg to differ. When they were arrested they told police they loved each other and that they were "married under Hindu traditions."

Sanjida was arrested on kidnapping charges, although she denies it.

"No one will ever lodge any complaint against me. Not even [this girl] as I did not abduct her. She went with me willingly," she told the newspaper before going to jail.

Bomb Targets Indian Consulate and Mosque In Afghanistan- Children In Mosque Killed

Ramadan is winding down and the killing of innocents, including children, continues.

A suspected suicide car bomb has killed at least nine civilians in the eastern Afghan province of Nangarhar.

Police say the bombing, early on August 3, targeted the Indian Consulate in Nangarhar's capital, Jalalabad.

"[T]he suicide bomber attacked the mosque here and all those children who were reciting the holy Koran inside the mosque were martyred -- eight children were martyred and 21 others wounded," Nangarhar police chief Mohammad Sharif Amin said in the aftermath of the bombing.

He was speaking before the death toll rose to nine.

Ahmadzia Abdulzai, a spokesman for government of eastern Nangarhar Province, said a car containing explosives hit a barrier near the Indian consulate and detonated.

"Five attackers arrived here and they asked me, 'Where is the gate to the consulate?'" Javed Khan, an eyewitness, said. "Then one of them asked, 'Is there a mosque nearby?' I said yes, and then they told me that they need to go for prayer. Then I heard a bang and gunfire shortly."

The Indian External Affairs Ministry said all diplomats in the consulate were safe.
Taliban deny involvement.

Israel A Wound That Needs To Be Removed- Says New Iranian President Rohani

Anyone who thought things might change under the leadership of the new so-called 'moderate' Iranian president Hassan Rohani (Rouhani) can lay those hopes to rest. At least when it comes to Iran's relationship with Israel. Rohani claimed that Israel is "a wound" that must be excised.

"The Zionist regime has been a wound on the body of the Islamic world for years and the wound should be removed," Rouhani was quoted as saying by the semi-official ISNA news agency.

The president-elect also expressed doubts about the possibility of an Israeli-Palestinian peace deal even as the two sides resumed negotiations in Washington this week, ending a five-year freeze in Mideast talks.

"Israelis show a compromising face to the world but continue their expansionism in practice," Rouhani said, according to Fars, another semi-official news agency.
Talk about showing one face to the world, but he's simply echoing what most every Muslim in the Middle East believes.

Peace in that region? Never. The Muslims will always hate the Jews/Israelis, and the Sunnis will always hate the Shia and vice versa. They're incapable of embracing peace. There are a few exceptions, but not enough to make a difference.

Saudi Blogger Gets 7 Years and 600 Lashes for Insulting Islam

According to Human Rights Watch, Saudi liberal blogger Raef Badawi- who faced possible death for apostasy- will get 7 years in jail and 600 lashes instead for insulting Islam. They couldn't get him on apostasy because he proved he is still a Muslim. I'm sure those who were bucking for apostasy charges are all sorely disappointed.

The charges against Badawi were based solely on his peaceful exercise of his right to free expression, Human Rights Watch said. Badawi established his online platform in 2008, to encourage debate on religious and political matters in Saudi Arabia. He has been detained in Jeddah’s Buraiman prison since his arrest on June 17, 2012.
[snip]
“This incredibly harsh sentence for a peaceful blogger makes a mockery of Saudi Arabia’s claims that it supports reform and religious dialogue,” said Nadim Houry, deputy Middle East director at Human Rights Watch. “A man who wanted to discuss religion has already been locked up for a year and now faces 600 lashes and seven years in prison.”
[snip]
Abu al-Khair said that the judge sentenced Badawi to five years in prison for insulting Islam and violating provisions of Saudi Arabia’s 2007 anti-cybercrime law through his liberal website, affirming that liberalism is akin to unbelief. The judge ordered the closure of the website and added two years to Badawi’s sentence for insulting both Islam and Saudi Arabia’s Committee for the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice, or religious police, in comments during television interviews.

[snip]

Saudi authorities have long harassed Badawi for debating religious issues. In March 2008, authorities arrested Badawi and questioned him about his website, but released him a day later. In May 2008, Badawi was formally charged with “setting up an electronic site that insults Islam” and he left the country. He returned when prosecutors apparently decided to drop the charges, he told Human Rights Watch. In 2009, the authorities barred Badawi from traveling abroad and froze his business interests, depriving him of a source of income, he told Human Rights Watch.

On March 18, 2012, the well-known cleric Sheikh Abdulrahman al-Barrak issued a religious ruling declaring Badawi an “unbeliever… and apostate who must be tried and sentenced according to what his words require.” Al-Barrak claimed that Badawi had said “that Muslims, Jews, Christians, and atheists are all equal,” and that even if these were not Badawi’s own opinions but “an account of the words of others, this is not allowed unless accompanied by a repudiation” of such words.

Fearing a backlash, his wife and four kids left the Kingdom. Hope he does the same thing when he's released.

'Wage Jihad At Home' Urge Russian Jihadists Fighting In Syria

A Russian jihadist known as Salakhuddin, who is fighting with the rebels in Syria, is urging North Caucus jihadist Muslims who are itching to join the fight to stay at home and wage war there.

"...fight in the lowlands if you can’t go to the mountains,"or alternatively to travel to Moscow or other Russian cities to target the enemy there, or prepare to sabotage the Winter Olympics in line with Umarov’s instructions.
He points out that jihad does not necessarily involve joining a large fighting force, and that individuals or groups of up to three fighters can inflict considerable damage if they set their minds to it. In that context, he quotes Chechen field commander Shamil Basayev's observation that "modern technology enables one man to inflict irreparable damage on the infrastructure of the enemy state."

Doku Umarov has threatened violence at the 2014 Winter Olympics.  Good luck with those.

"Virginity Tests" In Christian Georgia

Think that virginity tests are only a Muslim tradition? Think again. It's also happening in Georgia, which happens to be an Orthodox Christian nation, and while some defend the practice, some condemn it.

A recent news report on Georgia's Imedi television raised howls of protest when it revealed that Georgia's National Forensics Bureau was performing as many as 200 "virginity inspections" a year.

The report showed a bureau doctor describing the process, in which three medical experts use basic gynecological equipment and a head-mounted lamp to examine young women for tell-tale breaks in their hymen -- the traditional sign of sexual activity.

Since then, hundreds of Georgians have poured onto social media sites to alternately defend and assail the practice. And on July 30, a group of Georgian women gathered outside the forensics bureau to stage a noisy protest.

Natia Gvianishvili, a member of the Independent Group of Feminists, which organized the protest, said it was time to tackle what Georgians call the "virginity institute," the notion that a woman's value as a future wife and mother rests almost exclusively on her chastity.

"We are calling on the forensics bureau to stop providing these types of services. The idea of destroying the 'virginity institute' lies in treating women's sexuality and their sexual behavior on equal terms with men's sexuality," Gvianishvili said.

Despite the fact that its own employees were cited in the Imedi report, the Forensics Bureau on July 30 posted a statement on its website saying it performed virginity tests only in the case of court-ordered rape and abuse allegations. It denied issuing certificates for brides and other young women.
