Peace, Love and Understanding

The lyrics of this old song, by Elvis Costello, keep running through my mind. Costello's words seem to sum up what many of us are feeling, during these turbulent times. The song really says it all.

If we all could just set aside our religious, cultural and political differences, set aside our hatred, our fear and ignorance of others, our beliefs that my way is the only way, we might achieve peace in this century. It is up to us as individuals to affect change, when we change, the world changes accordingly.

" You must be the change you wish to see in the world" Mahatma Ghandi

As I walk through
This wicked world
Searchin for light in the darkness of insanity.

I ask myself
Is all hope lost?
Is there only pain and hatred, and misery?

And each time I feel like this inside,
Theres one thing I wanna know:
Whats so funny bout peace love & understanding? ohhhh
Whats so funny bout peace love & understanding?

And as I walked on
Through troubled times
My spirit gets so downhearted sometimes
So where are the strong
And who are the trusted?
And where is the harmony?
Sweet harmony.

cause each time I feel it slippin away, just makes me wanna cry.
Whats so funny bout peace love & understanding? ohhhh
Whats so funny bout peace love & understanding?

So where are the strong?
And who are the trusted?
And where is the harmony?
Sweet harmony.

cause each time I feel it slippin away, just makes me wanna cry.
Whats so funny bout peace love & understanding? ohhhh
Whats so funny bout peace love & understanding? ohhhh
Whats so funny bout peace love & understanding?

Used to love Elvis Costello, as goofy as he was. Didn't mind the boomtown rats either, in the day.

and sadly, it is ignorance and fear that prevents us from peacefully coexisting. And there are far too many ignorant people out there.
