British Politicians Banned From Calling Islamic Extremists "Islamic Extremists"

Even as some enlightened Muslims themselves have openly criticized the British government for pussyfooting around the issue of radical Islam in England, they continue to kowtow to the extremists. The latest idiocy coming out of Whitehall is a ban on the use of certain words by Ministers when speaking about the war on terrorism in a public forum. 8 pages worth, to be exact, of banned and politically correct alternatives, most of which make no sense at all. Simply because they fear offending Muslims, the majority of whom, granted, are incredibly thin-skinned.

So, even though they are referencing Muslim extremists, they're not allowed to use "Muslim", since it implies Islam is violent. A good alternative- just plain terrorism, or "violent" extremism.

Oh, and even though Jihadis are Jihadis- not allowed to use the word. Or fundamentalist for that matter. Because

Excuse me, but since when is "fundamentalist" solely equated with Islam? Every religion has their fundamentalist wackos, not just the Muslims. So, instead of calling them Jihadis (which they are) or fundamentalists or fundamentalist Jihadis, they are to be called 'criminals, murderers or thugs, which they are in their own right, even though they're still Jihadis. You don't have Christian Jihadis, or Hindu Jihadis, or Buddhist Jihadis, Jihadis are M-U-S-L-I-M and rewriting the Islamic dictionary isn't going to stop them from being Islamic Jihadis.

"Radicalisation" is also a no-no. It's "brainwashing". And they're not allowed to differentiate between moderate and radical Muslims since it "splits the community". But I thought that's what moderate Muslims wanted, not to be associated with extremists. As for "Islamophobia"? Verboten, since it's considered "a slur that singles out Muslims". Huh? That's a word they use against us. Why is that one banned?

Some over there have found it as ludicrous as I have:

He's right. You call a spade a spade, not a spoon. Islamic extremists are... radical Islamic fundamentalists who happen to be fighting a global Jihad, and call anyone critical of their religion Islamaphobic. No ifs ands or buts!
The guidance was branded "daft" last night by a special adviser to ex-Communities Secretary Hazel Blears. Paul Richards said: "Unless you can describe what you're up against, you're never going to defeat it. Ministers need to be leading the debate on Islamic extremism and they can't do that if they have one hand tied behind their back."

they make an "explicit link" between Muslims and terror.

I believe that Islams are not all bad and violent. They are still our brothers and we must respect them for what they believe in.

Hi ErikOrganic,

I would agree, not all Muslims are bad, and prior to 9/11 I would have agreed with the last part of your statement about respecting their beliefs. I am a firm believer in being able to worship as one pleases, which is why I am challenged by modern day Islam. They want to foist their beliefs on the rest of the world, and that I take umbrage with. Through my research for this blog and my blog on instablogs.com (where I deal with many Muslims) it has become quite obvious that there are many who want to create the 3rd Caliphate, that means they want to the world to become Muslim. I know it might sound far-fetched, but believe me it isn't. I have seen their websites and I have read tons of article and materials, about what they do to people of other religions, apostates from their own religion, and people who do not conform to their moral standards. If you are comfortable with the idea of the U.S. adopting Shariah Law, I am not. Britain is suffering for their over indulgence of Islamic demands. There are Muslims in that country who are criticizing the Brit government for not being tougher on those kinds of extremist Muslims. I debate them all the time on Instablogs, and believe me they have no tolerance for non-Muslims. WHen they start respecting our religions, then I will respect theirs. In the meantime, I will do my best to expose the hypocrisy and intolerance that is pervasive in that religion.

This is a comment from one of the enlightened Muslims on Instablogs who commented on a post I wrote about a Christian woman in Somalia who was killed because she refused to wear the hijab.

"Shariah has been reduced to a tool which is used by a majority of Muslims to suit their own needs. They use the strongest of chapters in Shariah to slam and weigh down their enemies or opponents; and resort to the loopholes in Shariah to justify and legitimize their own wrong deeds."

Love your website, by the way. Great work.
