Palestinian's Sick Humour- or let's celebrate 9/11

Text: “Exclusive to Al Hayat Al Jadida”

While much of the civilized western world has condemned Osama Bin Laden and his vile terrorist tactics, and much of the world mourned (and continues to mourn) the loss of thousands of innocent lives on 9/11, there are still those who continue to praise and celebrate Bin Laden and the shaheeds he has inspired to commit terrorist acts.

The Palestinians are guilty of this, but what else is new. According to the Palestinian Media Watch, the Palestinian Authority (PA) has published (since 9/11/01) in its daily newspaper, Al Hayat Al Jadida, cartoons glorifying Bin Laden and the terror attacks of 9/11; like the one above of Bin Laden with his 2 fingers in the shape of the Twin Towers proudly lifted in the sign of "victory". Of course, the Palestinians have a history of virulent anti-US sentiment, so it's not surprising. Remember, those horrifying videos of Palestinians celebrating in the streets the day of the attacks? And in a poll taken in December of 2005, it was found that 65% of the Palestinians supported Al Qaeda attacks on the U.S. and other western countries.

Interesting to note, per PMW, that Al Hayat Al Jadida is owned by the PA, and apparently controlled by the office of Ahmoud Abbas. And yet, we still continue to support the Palestinian Authority, both financially and politically, in spite of this profound hatred for the U.S.

According to PMW:

Earlier this year, a former Minister from Mahmoud Abbas's Fatah party wished Al Qaeda success in its attacks against the U.S., and in its targeting of President George W. Bush. The Fatah leader, Abu Ali Shahin, said in an interview on official PA TV: "Oh [Al-Qaeda] brother, leave us and focus on your business. You have Bush! Do to Bush what you want, and we wish you success with Bush, even more. I, Abu Ali
Shahin, wish you success with Bush... We are fighting the Americans and hate the Americans more than you!" [PA TV, Jan. 1, 2007]

I realize the U.S. has a history of often siding with the lesser of 2 evils (in this case Abbas) but one has to wonder how productive is that, considering the money we send could be used harm us. When are we going to draw the line and say "enough is enough! We refuse to support those who hate us and wish us harm!"?

Well thanks for hollerin incog, I'm hearing you and it's a great post. The cartoon is sicko as is the entire region, that is, in relation to your nation.

That's the thanks America gets after Washington called on Israel earlier this year to unblock funds owed to the Palestinian Authority, which were frozen after Hamas's election win, so as to support (the more moderate) Palestinian leader Mahmud Abbas.

Not to mention other direct U.S. assistance provided to the authority.

Said Condoleezza Rice through the State Dep't, "...the United States will increase its humanitarian aid to help Palestinians in need. Basic humanitarian assistance – including health, food, and education – will increase by 57 percent, for a total of $245 million. The United States will also provide $42 million to strengthen civil society and independent institutions. Assistance will be administered through the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) and non-Palestinian Authority actors, including local and international NGOs".

Here are the details:

Basic Human Needs ($245 million):

Food Programs ($65 million)*

Health Programs ($31 million)

Avian Influenza Prevention and Containment ($500,000 in protective equipment and related supplies)

Education Programs ($14 million)

UNRWA (United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East)($135 million)

Securing and Expanding Democracy ($42 million)

Other ($13 million):

Also under consideration:

• $45 million in direct assistance to the Palestinian Authority

• $130 million in infrastructure projects (roads, water infrastructure, construction)

• $20 million in private enterprise development and revitalization, financial markets reform, trade programs, and information technology sector support

• $17 million in electoral, political party, local government, and legislative support programs

• $13 million in civil society development

• $10 million in rule of law and judicial programs$7 million in technical assistance and vocational training

• $4 million in community policing

• $165 million in ongoing and planned projects subject to further review

• $105 million in available funds from the above projects will be redirected to augment ongoing humanitarian and democracy building programs.

And what's the U.S. get in return? A populace that glorifies Bin Laden.

Now I am pissed!

Interesting that the cartoon was from Abbas.

I know that this sort of thing --I'm not sure that savagery even begins to explain what I am looking to call it-- shouldn't surprise me, given the source, but it does. More than that, I am sickened by it.

As always, good find, Incog!

PAJ: You're not the first, nor will you be the last, to think that thought. Sad they've pushed so many to feel that way. Including me.

FRASYPOO: I know...it's hard to comprehend, but hate they do.

WOMAN: well, I think we're all preachin' to the choir.. but gotta do something.

AI: Thanks for all those stats! Makes it even worse. Biting the hand that feeds you, it seems. wonder how they'd feel if we just re-directed all that aid to countries that appreciated us more.

PAN: Thanks dear.. It's good to be back, at least for a while. Have another show coming up, so who knows what the internet service will be like.

REN: Exactly, my point Ren. We are sending aid to people that loathe us. Why?!

Kate: I know what you mean.. it does and doesn't at the same time. Crazy.
