ISIS Has Arrived In Afghanistan

The Islamic State has apparently arrived in Afghanistan and the government, in denial for quite some time, is finally admitting there is a potential problem, although they are handling it before it becomes an issue.

"Islamic State or those people who call themselves Islamic State are active in some areas and our intelligence reports confirm it and we cannot deny it," Interior Ministry spokesman Siddiq Sidiqqi admitted during a February 10 interview with RFE/RL's Radio Free Afghanistan.

But he said that national security forces were on top of the situation, offering assurances that "wherever they act we destroy them and don’t give them the opportunity to become active in Afghanistan."

They did off ex-Guantanamo prisoner/Taliban leader Mullah Abdul Rauf, who was recruiting for Islamic State in southern Afghanistan. And nabbed the Afghan spokesman for IS, Abdul Qadir Wahidi, who is now spending some time in prison. According to RFE/RL:

He said that he was arrested about two months ago by NSD officers when he appeared in Kabul for what he thought would be peace talks with government officials.

Wahidi said it was he who sent and appeared in a video to a Radio Free Afghanistan correspondent in September in which he claimed to represent a group called the Islamic Organization of Great Afghanistan, and expressed its willingness to fight for Islamic State "caliph" Abu Bakr Al-Baghdadi.

Many believe there is no way the Islamic State will gain foothold in a country that houses the Taliban and Al-Qaeda.

Some pointed to cultural clashes that would erupt when outsiders adhering to a strict form of Wahhabism encroached on long-established tribal traditions in Afghanistan. Others asked whether disgruntled Taliban were simply saying they were allying themselves with Islamic State in order to gain street cred. And the possibility was raised that provincial officials were heightening alarm in order to attract more funding and security from Kabul.

Though there's not much difference between these groups, there are cultural differences that might not appeal to the likes of the Taliban. After all, Islamic State jihadists kill homosexuals, Taliban actually use young boys as sex slaves.  That might doom the ever popular bacha bazi entertainment- dressing up young boys in dress for dancing and sex. Islamic State might just be a tad too strict.

So it seems Islamic State fighters might have a fight on their hands. Mohammad Jan Rasulyar, deputy governor of Helmand Province had this to say:

"... the Islamic State militants, who were carrying black flags to indicate their allegiance to Al-Baghdadi's group, were clashing with white-flagged Taliban.

We consider both groups an enemy, both of them are enemies of Afghans and killing Afghans," Rasulyar said. "But, it would better for us if they would fight each other and our Afghans were spared from their evil."

That's what I was thinking. Let them duke it out and be done with it, but others think Islamic State and Taliban will iron out their differences and become a major problem if the government doesn't do something about it now.

Speaking before a gathering of Afghan clerics in the northern city of Mazar-e-Sharif on February 13, Deputy Chief Executive Officer of Afghanistan Mohammad Mohaqiq called on the Afghan government to take serious action to counter Islamic State's activities.

Military analyst Jawed Kohistani said that, if Kabul doesn't answer the call now, it will mean trouble by as early as this summer.

"They [IS recruits in Afghanistan] will resolve their problems with the Taliban, find resources to fund their activities, and will be prepared for offensive operations," he told Radio Free Afghanistan on February 13. "If [the government] doesn't make good use of the capabilities and abilities of its military forces and doesn't pay attention to intelligence, we will be confronted with enormous problems in the future."

But Islamic State of Syria and Iraq's (ISIS) head honcho, Abu Bakr al-Baghdad, allegedly called the Taliban's head honcho, Mullah Mohammad Omar, a fool and illiterate war lord, and that ISIS has accomplished more in two years than the Taliban has in the past ten years. Them 'thar are fightin' words.

Just let them off each other, please.

Obama: Jews Killed In Paris Deli A "Bunch Of Folks" "Randomly Shot"

And I bring you the President of the United States of America, Barack Hussein Obama, who is still in major denial about the war on terror, agreeing with the interviewer (in the video below) that ".. the media sometimes overstates the sort of level of alarm people should have about terrorism and this kind of chaos as opposed to a longer term problem of climate change and epidemic disease." 

In other words, he believes we are fools to be worried about the ever growing ranks of the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria, and its end goal of world domination, or the likes of Boko Haram, al-Qaeda, Al-Shabaab, and not Climate Change or an outbreak of Measles. Move along folks nothing here to fret over.

Then he comes up with this- the Jews murdered in the Paris deli massacre were just a bunch of folks randomly shot by a vicious zealot.

Look, the point is this: my first job is to protect the American people. It is entirely legitimate for the American people to be deeply concerned when you’ve got a bunch of violent, vicious zealots who behead people or randomly shoot a bunch of folks in a deli in Paris. We devote enormous resources to that, and it is right and appropriate for us to be vigilant and aggressive in trying to deal with that — the same way a big city mayor’s got to cut the crime rate down if he wants that city to thrive. But we also have to attend to a lot of other issues, and we’ve got to make sure we’re right-sizing our approach so that what we do isn’t counterproductive.

Niger Kills 109 Boko Haram- Thousands To Go

Nigeria's version of the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) has been venturing out beyond its borders into neighbouring lands, but I'm delighted to see they are meeting some major resistance.

Niger forces, along with help from Chad's military, were able to off around 109 Boko Haram Islamists after they attacked the city of Bosso and Diffa. Unfortunately, 4 soldiers and a civilian were also killed. As a result, Niger will try to get approval from parliament to have soldiers join Chadian and Cameroon soldiers in Nigeria to help destroy Boko Haram. U.S. intellegence believes that could be a "game changer in a positive way."

Jindal Responds To Obama: "Medieval Christian Threat Is Under Control"

After our fool of a President Barack Obama compared today's radical Islam to the Christian Crusades of eons ago, Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal immediately responded with this brilliant remark.

“It was nice of the President to give us a history lesson at the Prayer breakfast,” Jindal said. “Today, however, the issue right in front of his nose, in the here and now, is the terrorism of Radical Islam, the assassination of journalists, the beheading and burning alive of captives. We will be happy to keep an eye out for runaway Christians, but it would be nice if he would face the reality of the situation today. The Medieval Christian threat is under control, Mr. President. Please deal with the Radical Islamic threat today.”

Jindal is considering a run for president in 2016, and a is a huge proponent of assimilation for immigrants. He believes it is dangerous not to.

“You’ve got people who want to come to our country but not adopt our values.”

He's right.

Bill Maher Blasts Liberals On "Extreme Bullying" Regarding Islam

Liberal Bill Maher does not suffer fools lightly, at least those who don't get the huge problem with radical Islam, both liberal and conservative, the Pope included. But the liberals are the ones who were the targets of the brunt of his anger.

Bill Maher was set to deliver the key-note speech at the U.C. Berkeley commencement in December 2014, until undergrad students decided to un-invite him in October because of his stance on radical Islam. Berkeley administration chose to keep him as speaker.

The kids took issue with his October 3 show where he commented that Islam:

 “is the only religion that acts like the mafia that will f***ing kill you if you say the wrong thing, draw the wrong picture, or write the wrong book.” 

The students then managed to get 4,000 signatures on a change.org petition demanding he no longer attend. They claimed:

“Maher is a blatant bigot and racist who has no respect for the values UC Berkeley students and administration stand for."  “In a time where climate is a priority for all on campus, we cannot invite an individual who himself perpetuates a dangerous learning environment.”

But he's right. This is not racism- religion is not a race, dudes- or bigotry, it's the truth. Witness what just happened to the Charlie Hebdo cartoonists in Paris, and the ensuing violent protests after they published another cartoon.  And Maher brought that up during his latest show on HBO.

He lambastes the Pope for his comment on limits to free speech, if it insults someone's faith, and Bill Donohue, Glenn Greenwald, and the Berkeley students who protested his commencement speech.

He called terrorism extreme bullying, and called out liberals for being bullies themselves.

"Liberals hate bullying, alright, but they're not opposed to using it- when they casually throw out words like bigot and racist, it does cow people into avoiding this debate, and if you're doing that you don't get to wear the "Je suis Charlie" button, the button you should wear is the "Je suis part of the problem."

He even brings up Rush Limbaugh, criticizing those who are trying to get him off the air. Maher believes they are part of the problem, and not true liberals because they don't "get" free speech. He said opinions shouldn't be illegal, and that no-one gets a waiver when it comes to freedom of speech, including religion.

Islamists- Destruction of Israel A "Matter of Time"

Gatestone Institute has posted a sobering article by Dr. Mitchell Bard about just how futile it is to expect peace in the Middle East. In fact, if Islamists have their way, the destruction of Israel is just "a matter of time."

What makes negotiations with Iran, ISIS, Hamas or any other Islamist group impossible is that their leaders believe they are acting according to the immutable word of God. America, Israel, other Muslims with whom they disagree, cannot do anything to satisfy them except "submit" (the Arabic word "Islam" means "submission"). As Egyptian cleric Muhammad Hussein Ya'qub said in a televised sermon in 2009, "If the Jews left Palestine to us, would we start loving them? Of course not. The Jews are infidels not because I say so but because Allah does... They aren't our enemies because they occupy Palestine; they would be our enemies even if they had not occupied anything."

Hamas, Hezbollah, Islamic Jihad and other terror groups do not conceal their intentions. The Hamas covenant explicitly calls for Israel's destruction and does not distinguish between Israelis and Jews:

"Our struggle against the Jews is very great and very serious... It strives to raise the banner of Allah over every inch of Palestine... It is one of the links in the chain of the struggle against the Zionist invaders...

The Prophet, Allah bless him and grant him salvation, has said: "The Day of Judgment will not come about until Muslims fight the Jews (killing the Jews), when the Jew will hide behind stones and trees. The stones and trees will say, 'O Muslims, O Abdulla, there is a Jew behind me, come and kill him'".... There is no solution for the Palestine question except through Jihad. Initiatives, proposals and international conferences are all a waste of time and vain endeavors. Palestine is an Islamic land."

But the ultimate goal of Islamists is not just the destruction of Israel, but the Islamization of any land Muslims have occupied in the past, like Spain, and beyond.

And another Muslim voice uber-critical of  liberal progressives who enable and inadvertently support the radical Muslims.

Aly Salem is an Egyptian Muslim writer living in New York who wrote an op-ed for The Wall Street Journal, and posted on The Australian.

The commentary titled "Losing My Religion To Islamic Radicals and Western Progressives" is a must read. Here are some snippets:

"What is so compelling about radical Islamism may lie within its founding texts. It is time we acknowledged the powerful influence these texts have had even on ordinary Muslims. The political ideology based on them has already dragged the Middle East back towards the Stone Age."

 "— Islamism — is the dominant political ideology in most Muslim-majority countries, often taking root in vacuums where secular politics have never had space to develop. Polls by the Pew Research Centre, such as last year’s The World’s Muslims, indicate that in many Muslim countries, the population is overwhelmingly in favour of veiling for women, the death penalty for leaving Islam and stoning as punishment for adultery; rabid anti-Semitism is rampant. The few exceptions to these statistics tend to be countries with a long history of militant secularism (like Turkey), or former communist states (Tajikistan, Bosnia, Albania, etc.) where religion was effectively wiped out of the public sphere. But Islamism is now growing even in those places."

"Many of my fellow Muslims are trying to reform Islam from within. Yet our voices are smothered in the West by Islamist apologists and their well-meaning but unwitting allies on the Left. For instance, if you try to draw attention to the stark correlation between the rise of Islamic religiosity and regressive attitudes towards women, you’re labelled an Islamophobe."

"In the US, we Muslims are handled like exotic flowers that will crumble if our faith is criticised — even if we do it ourselves. Meanwhile, Republicans and Democrats alike would apparently prefer to drop bombs in Syria, Iraq, Afghanistan and beyond, because killing Muslims is somehow less offensive than criticising their religion? Unfortunately, you can’t kill an idea with a bomb, and so Islamism will continue to propagate."

Moderate Muslims Have Same Beliefs As Radicals- Video

At a conference of so-called 'moderate Muslims' the moderator asks the audience of males if they are "normal Muslims" not extremists. They all raise their hands.  He then asks how many agree that men and women should "sit separate."  They all raise their hands.  He then asks how many agree that the punishments set forth in the Quran and Sunnah, like death by stoning, death for homosexuality etc, is "the best punishment for humankind," and that it should be applied throughout the world. All raise their hands. He then asks if they are all radical extremists. They laugh.

In other words, they do not think differently than extremists, and this should worry us.

Germany Becoming a Haven For Radical Islam - France 24 video

Germany is becoming a haven for radical Muslim extremists- especially the Salafist-ridden city of Dusseldorf.  Many of them are converts, like Bernard Falk, who went from being a left-wing extremist to a Muslim extremist, after he converted to Islam in jail. One of his buddies is Sven Lau aka Abu Adam, ex-firefighter and former pothead. He too is a convert, and is responsible for the sharia patrols in the small town of Wuppertal. According to a Moroccan Muslim woman interviewed in a France 24 video, there are over 5,000 (and growing) radical Salafist Muslims in Germany, and she believes something must be done now to prevent the problem from becoming worse down the line.

There are estimated to be at least 400 of them fighting in Syria.

Geert Wilders' Solution To The ISIS/Radical Islam Problem In The Netherlands

Geert Wilders gave an impressive speech to the Dutch parliament with a workable solution for the ISIS/Radical Islam war against the rest of the world, at least when it comes to his country.

In the video he blames the 'elite' for the current trouble with Muslims in the Netherlands, admonishing them for wasting 10 plus years doing nothing about the problem. And there seems to be a major one. Wilders tells them:

"According to a study 73% of all Moroccans and Turks in the Netherlands are of the opinion that those who go to Syria to fight in the jihad are "heroes"- people to be admired."

After 9/11 he says that:

"..three-quarters of the Muslims in the Netherlands condoned this atrocity."

According to Wilders, that's hundreds of thousands of Muslims condoning terrorism in his country, and calls it a ticking time bomb.

He then Quotes from the Quran to prove his point that the Quran is a handbook for terrorists, and a "hunting permit" for millions of Muslims. Essentially "A license to kill."

Surah 8, Verse 60:

Prepare to strike terror into the hearts of the enemies of Allah.
Surah 47, Verse 4:

Therefore, when ye meet the unbelievers, smite at their necks.

Surah 4, Verse 89:

So take not friends from the ranks of the unbelievers, seize them and kill them wherever ye find them.

He says this is not a clash of civilizations, but rather a clash between barbarism and civilization.

Jews For Allah?

I have known of Jews for Jesus for years, but Jews for Allah?  They have a sad looking website, unlike the slick-ish Jews for Jesus site.  And it's not quite the same thing.  Jews for Allah is just some information about Jews who have converted to Islam, including radical Yousef Al-Khattab, yes, that same Joseph Leonard Cohen of the now defunct Revolution Muslim (the website is now a parked domain), who went from one extreme- ultra-Orthodox Jew- to another, moved to Israel and then to the Arab part of Jerusalem.  The same yahoos who threatened the South Park folk for dressing Mohammed in a bear suit. His RevolutionIslam.com is also no longer accessible.

Although it is said that he eventually denounced RM:

Calling the RM Web site he helped launch a "bug light for Muslim misfits," and stating: "I regret anybody that would hurt an American civilian." In an audio message he posted to his Web site on December 1, 2010, he even expressed support for FBI efforts to apprehend "whoever [intends to] blowup civilians in the United States."

However, in a later posting to another online forum, al-Khattab explained that he would still support actions such as the Fort Hood shooting and that he still supports the notion of a "Mushroom Cloud Over Israel." He also continues to support replacing the U.S. Constitution with Sharia law and promotes the extremist ideologies of the Muslim Brotherhood (MB), Hamas and Abdullah Azzam, Osama bin Laden's spiritual mentor.

He still has the same radical mindset.

Jews for Allah was, ironically, founded by an Egyptian Muslim, Mohammed Ghounem, whose "goal is to surpass Jews for Jesus", which he considers "100 percent inevitable."

I have a question . Ever heard of the group Jews for Jesus ? This is a Christian missionary group that seeks to convert the Jews to Christianity .

Jews for Jesus has been very successful , they've nearly 300,000 members worldwide ! That's impressive numbers considering there are only 16 million Jews on this planet.

If Christians are able to get Jews to believe in something that essentially amounts to Polytheism , why not then , Muslims invite Jews to advanced level Monotheism ?!?! I would think a Jew would pick a Monotheist religion over a tritheist one any day !

Therefore, Jews for Allah

To some the idea of a Jew being a Muslim seems to be a contradiction.

Many people have a dichotomy in their minds.

On the one hand, you have Jews and Judaism
and on the other hand, Muslims and Islam.

You are either one or the other... so they think.

In reality there is nothing more Jewish than becoming a Muslim.

For a Jew to become a Muslim is for him to turn to the
Elohim (Lord) of Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Moses and King David.

Like many other misguided Muslims, they believe that we are all born Muslim. And unlike Jews for Jesus that still retain some Jewish customs,  and still consider themselves Jews that now happen to also believe in Jesus, Jews for Allah are just converts to Islam.

Religious Police Taking Control In Parts Of Syria

It's starting, but did anyone think otherwise.

Radical Syrian opposition groups now in control of Aleppo and much of its surroundings are forming increasing numbers of religious police units to enforce a strict form of Islamic rule, such as banning alcohol sales and making prayer compulsory.

The actions of these groups, many of which are made up of foreign fighters, are gaining in reach in a country that has been largely secular and free of Islamic jihadist radicalism.

“Rebels have brutally imposed a conservative dress code for women and crushed any ( secular) opposition in these areas,” Syrian author Talal al-Atrache said.

18 Christians Killed In NIgeria By Radical Islamists Boko Haram

Another attack on Christians in the predominately Muslim northern part of Nigeria. 18 dead, so far, including three children.

Part of the violence is being blamed on the radical Muslim sect Boko Haram, but it was just ordinary Muslim villagers who attacked their Christian neighbours (30 miles from Kano) in response to a trader who allegedly insulted their Prophet Mohammed. According to the police there were no deaths, although one witness, Sadiq Ahmed, claims there were four dead bodies in front of shops owned by Christians, torched shops and a church.

Officials believe Boko Haram is responsible for three separate attacks that have occurred this week in Maiduguri, northeast Nigeria. There has been no official count, and the 18 dead were reported by witnesses, which means there could be many more. The police might be reluctant to report more deaths in case it prompts retaliatory action by Christians.

Earlier this week, a Christian vigilante group in central Nigeria killed a Muslim resident after he defied an illegal checkpoint the group had put up to protect their church from a Boko Haram attack, even though the sect had not previously struck in that area. The killing sparked riots that left 10 people dead.

Though the Muslims and Christians lived in peace for many years in that country, the increasing trend towards radical Islam has changed that dynamic, and there's nothing the government can do to stop the escalating violence.

President Goodluck Jonathan, whose government has responded to the crisis by sending more troops to the most affected areas, recently said on state-run television that Boko Haram remained a "faceless" group and that there was nobody for the government to meet with to seek peace.

Not that Boko Haram or any of the other radical Islamists in African countries (or elsewhere) are interested in peace.

Radical Islamists To Hold Jummah Prayers At DNC

The Republicans were all too happy to have Catholic Cardinal Timothy Dolan say a little prayer at their delegate prom, as I like to call the Republican and Democratic National Conventions. But so as not to ruffle feathers he also offered to say benediction at the DNC which takes place September 3rd through 6th. He never heard back. But guess what one of the official pre-convention events is going to be?    Jumah at the 2012 DNC.That's right, on the preceding Friday (August 31st) there will be two hours worth of Muslim prayers hosted by The Bureau of Indigenous Muslim Affairs, (BIMA). Bima is described as a non-profit, non-partisan organization:

...designed to serve and facilitate the efforts of Islamic organizations and Institutions in their endeavors as well as spread awareness about Indigenous Muslim issues. BIMA’s purpose in rallying large numbers of Muslims to participate in this event, Jumah at the DNC, is to make the general public aware that the Muslim community is a healthy and vibrant component to the American society. This platform is non-partisan; meaning that it is not an endorsement of any political candidate or elected official. It is intended to address the concerns and issues that are challenging to the American Muslim citizens in the 21st century.

Non-partisan? Are they holding anything similar at the RNC? A few small ones but those I'm sure are more protests than prayer events. Now I have no problem if the DNC wants to have someone from every faith participate in some sort benediction, but why snub the Catholics? That did change, however, and Dolan will now give the closing benediction, but what was up with that?  Muslim yes, Catholic no?  BIMA wants  a large showing - and 20,000 are expected- to ensure that Muslims do not become marginalized, and to deal with issues including the infamous "Islamophobia", The Patriot Act and anti-Shariah sentiment.

But not all Muslims are thrilled about two of the leaders of the event. Though most are in denial about the radical element in their midst, some are well aware, and what they have to say is very troubling.  According to The Blaze:

Dr. Zuhdi Jasser, a devout Muslim and the Founder and President of the American Islamic Forum for Democracy, wrote:

The leaders of this event – Jibril Hough and Imam Siraj Wahhaj [are not] moderates. They are radicals. These individuals embrace Islamist supremacy and have demonstrated support for radical ideologies. 

Jasser goes on to say:

A quick Google search by the DNC would have shown them that Hough and Wahhaj are leaders in the separatist American Islamist movement. While they may be able to get a few thousand Muslims to attend the event, they are NOT going to be mainstream Muslims.  Most will likely come from Hough and Wahhaj’s radical networks that have long been entrenched in the Charlotte area. Make no mistake they are part of the Islamist movement.This is not about their right of assembly; this group under a different name pulled the same stunt at the US capitol in 2009 claiming 20k and getting 2-3k. THIS IS ABOUT the DNC calling this an “official function” listing these radicals as typical of the DNC community and more importantly about this organization speaking out AS representing supposedly typical American Muslims (or “Mainstream”).  If that is who the DNC is consorting with then all Americans, Democrats should be concerned. There are many patriotic Muslims who are part of both parties, and when radical ideologues like this do a demonstration of “solidarity” in the name of our faith and choose an imam like Siraj Wahhaj who I saw with my own eyes in 1995 seditiously say it his duty and our duty as Muslims to replace the US Constitution with the Quran- then we need to speak up!

Omar Ahmed Khadr- The Terrorist No-One Wants

No-one wants Omar Ahmed Khadr, the 25-year-old Canadian al-Qaeda murdering terrorist (of Egyptian ancestry), who was captured after a deadly firefight in Afghanistan in 2002 when he was a baby-faced 15 year-old teen. Most of his time since then has been spent in Guantanamo, but the U.S. wants him out and is ready to send him back after a plea deal was reached in 2010 allowing him to serve the rest of his short sentence in a facility in Canada. The trouble is, the Canadians don't want him there either.

According to an interview on Sun News with U.S. Forensic Psychiatrist, Dr.  Michael Welner, Khadr was evaluated back in 2010 (at the behest of the Pentagon) to determine just how dangerous he really was, and the results were not at all promising. Khadr, wants to go home and "become a contributing member of our society," so says his lawyer, John Norris, but Welner has 73 reasons why Khadr still poses a danger to Western society, including the fact that:

1. he has no remorse for his terrorist activities, including killing a U.S. soldier
2. he bragged about killing SFC Christopher Speer
3. tests revealed Khadr as an angry and manipulative young man
4. Khadr has not been de-radicalized, even though his defense team recommended it as recently as 2009
5. the Imam they wanted to help him de-radicalize (who has called President Obama a "house slave") is a radical himself
6. he's actually not eligible to enter a de-radicalization programme because his family is highly radicalized.

Yes, papa Ahmed was also allegedly a terrorist (or at the very least a sympathizer) until he was killed alongside other al-Qaeda and Taliban militants in Afghanistan in 2003; and several of his brothers also have extremist tendencies. In fact, even mama Khadr is very anti-Western, which is why the Khadr kids were often shuttled back and forth from Canada to Pakistan and Afghanistan, where Khadr supposedly worked for several charitable NGOs. Even though mama Khadr thinks Western society turns kids into gay, drug addicts, she's back living in Canada.  I guess she had no problem with the Afghan opium trade, and the gay Pashtuns.

I'd like to think that people are redeemable, but religious extremists (especially Muslims) don't easily let go of their fanatical ideology, and the recidivism rate for radical Muslims (especially former Guantanamo detainees) is apparently very high.
So what will happen to Omar? Canada will reluctantly repatriate him, he'll serve out the rest of his sentence there, he'll be back out on the streets, and soon ship off to Yemen to join his Qaeda buddies.
We shall see.

Anatomy of a Smear- Video Response By "The Third Jihad" Director To Critics Of The Film

After it was discovered that the NYPD was using the film "The Third Jihad" as a tool in their counter-terrorism training sessions, the Council on American-Islamic Relations, and other radical Muslim groups, began calling for the resignation of Commissioner Ray Kelly.

In spite of the fact that the film is not an indictment against Muslims in general, but rather the threat of radical Islam (I saw the film in 2008), the radical elements in this country, including the dupes at the New York Times,  have rallied to discredit the film.

This video, by the makers of  "The Third Jihad", is in response to the smears, and is narrated by the director Wayne Kopping.

Tunisians Take To The Streets To Protest Conservative Islam

Here's some promising news out of Tunisia. Some people there are not too happy about the turn of events since the Islamists took control of the government in October. It seems the uber-conservative Salafists are, like in Egypt, trying to see how far they can push the envelope, so to speak, and the moderate Islamist Ennahda party is not doing much to stop it.

So, the people are back on the streets, but this time it's not to demonstrate against former dictator Zine el-Abidine Ben Ali, it's to protest the Islamists. 

An AFP correspondent estimated several thousand activists, professors, artists and other demonstrators flooded the streets of the nation’s capital, including along Bourguiba Avenue, a well-known thoroughfare that became a center for dissent during protests that led to the ouster of dictator Zine el-Abidine Ben Ali a year ago.

Some in Tunisia are angry by the growing influence of radical Islamists, known as Salafists, who have dominated headlines in recent weeks.

Police on Tuesday ended a weeks-long sit-in by Salafists at the university in Manouba, about 25 kilometers (15 miles) from Tunis. The Salafists were angry the university had banned the full-face Muslim veil, or niqab, over security concerns if students were concealed from head to toe.

Journalists have also suffered attacks at Salafist protests.

“We are here to speak out against aggression against journalists, activists and academics,” said Ahmed Nejib Chebbi, founder of the Democratic Progressive Party. “And to tell the government that Tunisians’ hard-fought freedoms must not be compromised.”

Sarah Kalthoum, a retired teacher in her 70s, said she was concerned by what she viewed as regressive ideas from Salafists.

“We spent our lives educating people, and now some want us to go back in time 14 centuries,” she said.

These people might have lived under autocratic rule for several decades, but at least the country was secular. The possibility, nay,  probability of their country turning religiously conservative- if they don't fight it now- is not appealing in the least. One woman  said of the growing problem,

“The grocer told me the other day, ‘I don’t like your jeans,’“ said Leila Katech, a retired anesthesiologist. “I told him I didn’t like his beard.”

Through this religious prism, “Everything becomes tougher: Going to see a gynaecologist, what to wear, how to talk,” Katech said.

According to Chebbi,  Ennahda just doesn't want to rock the boat when it comes to their more extremist brothers; they're "complacent", as he put it.  Which, of course, is the quickest way to lose control.  The Tunisian people are very smart to tackle the problem now, before it's too late. You cut that tumor out before it metastasizes.

Since Tunisia was the catalyst for the Arab Spring, perhaps those other countries who kicked out or killed their own dictators who are having their own Islamist troubles will do the same thing.
