Giving a 5-year-old child a .22-caliber rifle as a gift is ludicrous. Leaving that child alone with his 2-year-old sister is criminal. As a result of two idiotic parents taking the 2nd amendment way too far, their daughter is dead.
2-year-old Caroline Starks was shot dead by her 5-year-old brother. Yes, it was an accident. Yes, everyone is devastated, including the townfolk, but that's irrelevant.
Apparently, the boy had been given the gun last year for his fourth birthday, and was playing with it in the house when mom stupidly walked out of the house for a moment, leaving her son alone with his gun, and boom. One child gone.
The weapon was a Crickett rifle made for children, and called "My First Rifle", and had been sitting in the corner of their house (not locked up as it should have been) with a shell in the barrel, that the mum claims she had no idea was still there. So maybe the son wasn't playing with the gun when she went out to the porch, but the fact that the gun was lying around the house is unconscionable.
Local coroner Gary White said of the incident, it was "just one of those crazy accidents". No, it's crazy to give a 5-year-old a real gun.
The lucky parents will not be charged with negligence, although they should be.

Georgia Town To Require Families To Own Guns
A small town in Georgia, with just one police officer to its name, is set to force all heads of households to own a gun. The Family Protection Act will require families to "maintain a firearm, together with ammunition." Of course there will be exceptions: people who object on religious grounds and convicted felons. This should be a 2nd Amendment and gun advocate's dream, but being forced to own one turns the issue into 'big government', as resident Lamar Kellett put it, after officials said they would not enforce it:
Lamar has no problems with gun ownership, just being told he has to own one.
Since the town is situated in two counties and the one police officer only works his 8 hour day, the other 16 hours leave the town vulnerable. Per Councilman Duane Cronic:
Kennesaw, Georgia has had that law on the books since 1982, though it has not been enforced. According to Kennesaw police, around half the town owns guns. A gun ownership law was also passed in Virgin, Utah in 2000, again not enforced, although 95% of the population there were gun owners prior to the law passing.
It would be interesting to note what the crime statistics are in those towns, and how it will effect Nelson, Georgia.

"Why have an ordinance if you're not going to enforce it? What's the point? This is big government at its worst. Government mandating what a free individual can and will have in his home."

Milwaukee Sheriff David Clarke Urges Citizens To Get Gun Training
While the liberals are rallying around gun control, Milwaukee Wisconsin Sheriff David Clarke is urging citizens to get the necessary firearm training so they can defend themselves until police can get there.
In the following .30 second PSA, Clarke says:

"I need you in the game. With officers laid off and furloughed, simply calling 911 and waiting is no longer your best option," he adds. "You can beg for mercy from a violent criminal, hide under the bed, or you can fight back. ... Consider taking a certified safety course in handling a firearm so you can defend yourself until we get there."However, not too many people are happy about it, calling it vigilantism.

Judge Jeanne Pirro Blasts The Journal News For Publishing Gun Owners Addresses
Judge Jeanine Pirro (Fox News) blasts The Journal News for publishing the names and addresses of legal gun owners in New York, and for refusing to address the issue. It turns out Pirro happens to be a gun owner.
In the meantime, one of those gun owners- a 70 year-old man- was robbed, and they apparently headed straight for his gun safe. No-one is sure yet whether this was simply a co-incidence or whether that handy interactive map the idiots at The Journal News published was what inspired the thieves to target his house. I'm willing to bet it was.
Anyone on that list who is robbed should sue The Journal News.

Anti-Gun Journalists Refuse "This Home Proudly Gun Free" Yard Signs- Project Veritas Video
James O'Keefe's Project Veritas just posted a brilliant new video about gun control hypocrisy.
A group of actors posing as members of fictitious "Citizens Against Senseless Violence" approach a slew of journalists and politicians asking them to place yard signs that say: This Home Is Proudly Gun Free. They even show up at some of the homes of the The Journal News idiots who posted the names and addresses (along with an interactive map) of legal gun owners in several New York counties. Ironically, most of them now have security guards after a pissed off blogger posted their names and addresses in retaliation.
Obviously, not one person requested a sign because that would be like posting a "rob me" sign in their yard, which is basically what The Journal News did to all the citizens living in those counties.
The beginning of O'Keefe's video is a parody of this anti-gun, celebrity-filled "We Are Better Than This" YouTube video.

Pravda columnist- American's Never Give Up Your Guns
Late last year Xavier Lerma, of Russia's Pravda, wrote about "Obama's Soviet Mistake", blaming his re-election on "illiterate voters". Now another Pravda columnist, Stanislav Mishin, is tackling the current gun control issue, and warning the U.S. not to give up our guns.
Americans never give up your guns
These days, there are few things to admire about the socialist, bankrupt and culturally degenerating USA, but at least so far, one thing remains: the right to bear arms and use deadly force to defend one's self and possessions.
This will probably come as a total shock to most of my Western readers, but at one point, Russia was one of the most heavily armed societies on earth. This was, of course, when we were free under the Tsar. Weapons, from swords and spears to pistols, rifles and shotguns were everywhere, common items. People carried them concealed, they carried them holstered. Fighting knives were a prominent part of many traditional attires and those little tubes criss crossing on the costumes of Cossacks and various Caucasian peoples? Well those are bullet holders for rifles.
Various armies, such as the Poles, during the Смута (Times of Troubles), or Napoleon, or the Germans even as the Tsarist state collapsed under the weight of WW1 and Wall Street monies, found that holding Russian lands was much much harder than taking them and taking was no easy walk in the park but a blood bath all its own. In holding, one faced an extremely well armed and aggressive population Hell bent on exterminating or driving out the aggressor.
This well armed population was what allowed the various White factions to rise up, no matter how disorganized politically and militarily they were in 1918 and wage a savage civil war against the Reds. It should be noted that many of these armies were armed peasants, villagers, farmers and merchants, protecting their own. If it had not been for Washington's clandestine support of and for the Reds, history would have gone quite differently.Read the rest here.
Moscow fell, for example, not from a lack of weapons to defend it, but from the lying guile of the Reds. Ten thousand Reds took Moscow and were opposed only by some few hundreds of officer cadets and their instructors. Even then the battle was fierce and losses high. However, in the city alone, at that time, lived over 30,000 military officers (both active and retired), all with their own issued weapons and ammunition, plus tens of thousands of other citizens who were armed. The Soviets promised to leave them all alone if they did not intervene. They did not and for that were asked afterwards to come register themselves and their weapons: where they were promptly shot.

Bloggers Retaliate- Post Addresses of Staff Of Paper That Published Gun Owners Map
The latest issue to polarize this country is the right to bear arms. Gun control has always been a bone of contention for the American people, but more so since the recent spate of mass murders left movie-goers in Aurora and 20 young ones in Sandy Hook dead. Yes, it's an issue that has many people angered, on both sides, but what New York's The Journal News did by publishing an interactive map along with the names AND addresses of gun owners in Westchester and Rockland counties was unconscionable. The newspaper has effectively made every single resident in both counties a target for criminals: they now know which houses they can steal from to add to their arsenal of weapons, and the ones which will make easy targets with no guns for protection.
But back to the Journal News: piss off enough people and someone is going to retaliate, which is what a former Connecticut attorney and blogger Christopher Fountain did. Fountain published on his blog the names, addresses and phone numbers of all 50 employees of The Journal news including the publisher Janet Hasson, including a Google Maps shot of her house:
Another blogger, Robert Cox, published an interactive Google Map of his own pinpointing where some of the employees live, along with some email addresses and other personal information.
Whether you believe two wrongs don't make a right, as one commenter on Fountain's blog pointed out, this is what happens when you push the envelope too far to further your agenda. The News Journal should never have published those names and addresses. Now all these people, including the News Journal staff, will be potential targets for all the criminals and crazies in the world.

Australia's Gun Control Law Prompts Higher Crime Rates
As expected, the gun control debate has been dominating my Facebook feed. This is one of the photos that has been circulating:
Everyone has been touting Australia's gun control laws. Yes, the mass shootings have stopped, but apparently crime has increased, according to the report below.

Rapper Ice-T Defends Right To Bear Arms- "The Last Form Of Defense Against Tyranny"
You might think rapper/actor Ice-T (Law and Order: SVU) was a Republican, but is he? Probably not, but his defense of gun ownership might make you think twice. In an interview with British Channel 4 News anchor Krishnan Guru-Murthy, he defended the right to bear arms- which is not a very liberal stance.
He was there to discuss a documentary he produced about rapping when the Aurora Batman massacre news emerged. Guru-Murthy decided to ask Ice-T why he is such a defender of gun rights, and this is a loose transcript of that conversation.

Ice-T: Well, I'd give up my gun when everybody else does. Doesn't that make sense? Doesn't that make sense. If there were guns here, would you want to be the only person without one?
Krishnan Guru-Murthy: So do you carry guns routinely at home? I mean, you have a gun at home?
Ice-T: Yeah, it's legal in the United States. It's part of our Constitution. You know, the right to bear arms is because that's the last form of defense against tyranny. Not to hunt. It's to protect yourself from the police.
Anchor: And do you see any link between that and these sorts of incidents?
Ice-T: No. Nah. Not really. You know what I'm saying, if somebody wants to kill people, you know, they don't need a gun to do it.
Anchor: It makes it easier though, doesn't it?
Ice-T: Not really. You can strap explosives on your body, they do that all the time.
Anchor: So when there's the inevitable backlash of the anti-gun lobby as a result of this incident, as there always is?
Ice-T: Well, that's not going to change anything.
Anchor: it's not going to change anything.
Ice-T: Nah. The United States is based on guns, you know. Like [inaudible] says, you''ll never have justice on stolen land. So, it's not gonna change.

Criminals For Gun Control Video
I'm still not sure where I stand on the gun control issue. Both sides have perfectly valid points, but this video (satire) could sway me from remaining center field.
