Chinese Poke Fun At Kim Jong-Un- Viral video joke of the day

This one is hilarious. I think there's a longer version, but it's a compilation of video clips with the dictator's head photoshopped onto various movie and cartoon characters. Vladimir Putin and Barack Obama have supporting roles. Funny stuff.

Apparently, Kim Jong-un was terribly offended and wanted it removed. The Young Turks have a little information about the video and the cry-baby's fury at the upcoming Seth Rogan/James Franco movie "The Interview" which is about an attempted assassination of the dictator, calling it an act of war.

Russia's Embarrassing Post Office Woes

We think we have problems with our postal services here, but check out what's happening in Russia.

There's the 500-ton back-up of international packages- no wonder so many Ebayers refuse to ship there.

And the viral videos that the Russian Postal service would rather have remained obscure, like this tone-deaf postal worker's submission for the employee-of-the-year contest. Or this outrageous video taken of someone throwing parcels off a train that way outranks the Fedex guy throwing the computer monitor over a fence in ouch-ness.

Read about more embarrassing moments.

Tammy Duckworth Blasts Braulio Castillo For Gaming Veterans Benefits System

Okay, so Congresswoman Tammy Duckworth is a Democrat from Illinois, but she also happens to be a military veteran who lost both her legs (and might lose her arm) serving with the National Guard in Iraq. And she's very passionate about military veterans issues. So when it came to light that Braulio Castillo, CEO of  the computer services company Strong Castle, Inc was awarded million dollar contracts from the IRS reserved specifically for businesses owned by service-disabled vets, she (and others) balked. You see, Braulio Castillo hurt his ankle years ago while playing football at a military prep school that he attended prior to college. That's it. He continued to play football in college but has never served in the military, and yet he was given service-disabled designation because of his ankle injury. A friend at the IRS allegedly helped secure those contracts. Unfair? You bet.

During a House Oversight and Government Reform Committee hearing, Duckworth layed into Castillo for essentially gaming the system, and taking away work from those who rightfully deserve it. That video (below) has gone viral.

"I'm so glad that you would be willing to play football in prep school again 'to protect this great country." "Shame on you, Mr. Castillo. Shame on you. You may not have broken any laws, we're not sure yet ... but you certainly broke the trust of this nation. You broke the trust of veterans. Iraq and Afghanistan veterans right now are waiting an average of 237 days for an initial disability rating and it is because [of] people like you who are gaming the system are adding to that backlog so that young men and women who are suffering from post-traumatic stress, who are missing limbs, cannot get the compensation and the help that they need."
Somehow Castillo received a disability rating of 30 percent for his ankle injury in prep school, while Duckworth received 20 percent for her severely injured arm. When asked if Castillo believed his rating was accurate he replied, yes. Duckworth's response:

"You know, my right arm was essentially blown off and re-attached." "I spent a year in limb salvage with over a dozen surgeries over that time period and, in fact, we thought we would lose my arm and I'm still in danger of possibly losing my arm. I can't feel it. I can't feel my three fingers. My disability rating for that arm is 20 percent." [snip]
"I recovered with a young man, a Navy corpsman, who — while he was running into an ambush where his Marines were hurt — had his leg knocked off with an RPG." "He put a tourniquet on himself and crawled forward. He is [the one] who played through the pain, Mr. Castillo, you did not. You took advantage of the system. You described this status just today, [saying] that other companies were using these special statuses as 'competitive weapons' against you — you, who never picked up a weapon in defense of this great nation very cynically took advantage of the system. You broke the faith with this nation. You broke the faith with the men and women who lie in hospitals right now at Walter Reed in Bethesda, at Brook Army Medical Center in [San Antonio], you broke the faith with them. And if this nation stops funding veterans' health care, and stops.. and calls into question why veterans deserve their benefits. its because cases like you have poisooned the publics's opinions on these programmes."  [snip]
"Twisting your ankle in prep school is not defending or serving this nation, Mr. Castillo."
Brava, Ms Duckworth!

More info about Castillo, including the fact that he claims in his bio on his website that he served in the military.

4 Arrested In Egypt For Doing The "Harlem Shake"

I came a little late to the "Harlem Shake". I kept seeing references to it, but had no clue what it was other than some video that went viral, and subsequently launched a whole meme of copycat videos. I finally watched what turned out to be one of the stupidest things I've ever seen. I'm not sure why it's so wildly popular or what the appeal is, or even why my local conservative talk radio station bothered to add theirs to the ever growing list of more than 12,000 Harlem Shake videos out there, but it's become a world wide phenomenon. It's even made its way to Egypt, however people over there haven't been quite as receptive.  In fact, four students in Cairo were arrested for committing "a scandalous act" after neighbours took offense to the lads filming themselves in their undies dancing to the "Harlem Shake", in public.

The four pharmaceutical students shocked residents of a middle class Cairo neighborhood when they removed most of their clothes and videotaped themselves performing the pelvis-thrusting dance, a police official said.

The hostile audience tried to assault the students, who are accused of committing “a scandalous act,” the official added.

Egypt has strict public indecency laws.

Some Egyptians have posted videos of themselves on Youtube doing the “Harlem Shake” in front of the pyramids. One of them, dressed in white underwear and a bow tie, dances while riding a camel.

If you are as clueless as I was, this blog gives you a rundown of  the evolution of the craze which was sparked by some Australian kids, although this one is the original that inspired the Aussies. All pretty dang stupid, if you ask me.

Top Ten Viral Videos Of 2012

WIOD, a talk radio station in Florida, has compiled a list of the top 10 viral videos of 2012, some I had seen, some not. Obviously not an extensive list, but some fun stuff to celebrate the end of a year.

Coming in at #10 with over 11 million views is Donna The Deer Lady, who called a radio station complaining about deer crossings being placed in high traffic areas, and how they should be moved.

#9.  Sweet Brown's Cold Pop Escape with over 11.8 million views. The autotune remix of Sweet Brown's interview after escaping a fire.

#8. Catch The Ice Dude with over 22.3 million views. Not too swift dude dives into a frozen swimming pool.

#7. Opera duo Charlotte & Jonathan with over 29.9 million views. Britain's Got Talent's duo that blew away the crowd.

#6. "Push To Add Drama" with over 39.4 million views. See what happens when someone pushes a red button in the middle of a Belgium town square.

#5. Barack Obama vs Mitt Romney with over 45.6 million  views. "Mitt" and "Obama" duke it out in Epic Rap Battles Of History Season 2012.

#4. Brazilian Ghost Elevator Prank with over 51.8 million  views. Scary little girl in elevator prank.

#3. Kony 2012 with over 94.4 million views. Video exposing  LRA leader Joseph Kony. It gained traction until some people decided it was a scam of sorts.

#2. Call Me Maybe with over 358 million views. Apparently a relatively unknown Carly Rae Jepson uploaded this video to Youtube and the rest is history. It has spawned a myriad of parody videos including this from our troops in Afghanistan.

And the #1 spot goes to Korean rap sensation  Gangnam Style with over 942 million views. Still popular in spite of the fact that he wrapped about killing U.S. troops at a concert in 2004.

"We Are Hungry" Viral Video- Kids Complain About School Lunch Rules

The latest song parody is by a group of Kansas school kids and some of their teachers- the song is written by one of them- skewering Michelle Obama's 2010 "Healthy, Hunger-Free Act" which limits growing kids to a mere 850 calories per school lunch. Applicable to both males and females active and non-active, that amount of calories for lunch just isn't enough for the kids to function properly. Now, I understand the need to make lunches more healthy since obesity is a huge problem for our youth, but limiting calories is not helpful in any way. All this will do is make the kids eat more junk food and make them fatter.

The song is based on the song "We Are Young" by Fun, no credit anywhere for the singer.

The kids are from Wallace County High School.

The Blaze tracked them down, and has more information on the whole issue.

"U Didn't Build That" by MC "Bama -Video by Hugh Atkin

Ha. Very cleverly edited video of Barack Obama "rapping" about:

"You Didn't Build That", Mitt Romney, and the 2012 campaign to the tune of MC Hammer's "U Can't Touch This".

The 'rap' is created by Hugh Atkin, an Aussie lawyer who has a penchant for creating political viral videos. But Obama isn't his only target, to be fair, he socks it to Mitt Romney as well.
