Moroccan Rape Victim Attacked By Rapist Husband Over Divorce

Even in moderate, somewhat secular, Morocco, women are still victimized. In the case of 17-year-old Khaoula- multiple times.  Khaoula was raped, but so her rapist could avoid jail time, she was forced to marry the man last year. But then Khaoula decided to file for divorce- one can assume her rapist husband was probably very abusive. So what did rapist hubby do? He beat her up and slashed her face with a razor blade around 50 times, wounding her on other parts of her body, requiring 40 stitches.

Hubby allegedly told her:.

"I swear that nobody will marry you after me."
I doubt she will get justice, even though some rights organizations have pledged to help her.

It wasn't until this past January that Morocco finally did away with the law that allows child rapists to get off scott free if they marry their victims.

You might remember Amina al-Filali, the Moroccan 16-year-old who committed suicide after being forced to marry her rapist, although the mother claimed she had been forced to drink poison.

In some Muslim majority countries, like Afghanistan, rape victims have the choice of either marrying their rapists or lashes and jail time.
