Yes indeed, 21-year-old model, clothing saleswoman Yityish Aynaw- an Ethiopian-Israeli- won the 2013 Miss Israel beauty pageant. It's a first for an Ethiopian-Israeli.
Aynaw arrived in Israel when she was 12, and has served in the Israeli army, as an officer.
She told the pageant judges how much she admired the Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr.:
"He fought for justice and equality, and that's one of the reasons I'm here: I want to show that my community has many pretty qualities that aren't always represented in the media.
And in response to a question by the judges she said:
"It's important that a member of the Ethiopian community wins the competition for the first time." "There are many different communities of many different colors in Israel, and it's important to show that to the world."
So far all those out there who continue to believe that Israel is racist, what say you now?

one swallow doth not a summer make.
Has there been a Muslim miss Israel yet.
Has there been a Jewish Miss Saudi Arabia, Miss Palestine, Miss Iran? Oh wait, there are no Jews there.
It's a beginning! Everything has a beginning! We shall see!
There are jews in Palestine by the way.
It is indeed. But you'd never find a Jewish Miss Palestine.
I have NEVER thought of the Jewish people as racist - ever. In fact I think they are a very loving, accepting people who simply want to live in peace :)
Unfortunately, Kathleen, many people do. And yes, they want to live in peace. most of them, at least. they have their problem people, but don't we all.
