Female Kuwaiti Teacher Gets 11 Years Jail For Insulting The Emir

11 years in jail for a 37-year-old female Kuwaiti teacher- Huda al-Ajmi- for insulting the Emir and a religious sect, and calling for regime change all on Twitter. According to the BBC article, it was also for misusing her phone. Huh? As is often the case, the actual charges vary, depending on which news source you read. All four sources below mention slightly different charges. Only one cites insulting a religious sect. Bottom line, she apparently has been handed down the longest sentence ever for political dissent, and also happens to be the first woman to be tried.

She can appeal, and supposedly has not yet been been jailed.

She's not the only one who has been tried for insulting Sheikh Sabah al-Ahmad al-Sabah,
